About

This is a place where people work together to write encyclopedias in Indian English. All of the pages on this Wiki are free to use. They have all been published under both the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License 3.0 and the GNU Free Documentation License. You can help here! You may change these pages and make new pages. Read the help pages and other good pages to learn how to write pages here. If you need help, you may ask questions at this talk page. Also, It should be noted that Bharatpedia has no affiliation with Wikipedia. Although both use the term "pedia" in their name, they have always been completely separate and unaffiliated projects.

When writing articles here:

  • Use Indian English vocabulary and shorter sentences. This allows people to understand normally complex terms or phrases.
  • Write good pages. The best encyclopedia pages have useful, well-written information.
  • Use the pages to learn and teach. These pages can help people learn English.
  • Writing in Indian English means that simple words are used. It does not mean readers want basic information. Articles do not have to be short to be simple; expand articles, add details, but use basic vocabulary.
  • Be bold! Your article does not have to be perfect because other editors will fix it and make it better. And most importantly, do not be afraid to start and make articles better yourself.

India (Hindi: Bhārat), officially the Republic of India (Hindi: Bhārat Gaṇarājya) is a country in South Asia. It is the second-largest country in population and the seventh-largest country by land area. It is also the most populous democracy in the world, bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the southwest, and the Bay of Bengal on the southeast. It has seven neighbours: Pakistan in the northwest, China, Nepal and Bhutan in the north, Bangladesh and Myanmar in the east and Sri Lanka in the south.

The capital of India is New Delhi. India is a peninsula, bound by the Indian Ocean in the south, the Arabian Sea on the west and the Bay of Bengal in the east. The coastline of India is about 7,517 km (4,671 mi) long. India has the third-largest military force in the world and is also a nuclear weapon state. India's economy became the world's fastest-growing in the G20 developing nations in the last quarter of 2014, replacing the People's Republic of China.
