{{Use Indian English|date=June 2016}} [[Assam Rifles]] belongs to the [[Assam|Assam regiment]] of the [[Indian Army]] which has been defined in Assam Rifles Rule 2016 under the [[Army Act, 1950|Indian Army Act, 1950]] and various official documents of [[Government of India]]. [[Assam Rifles]] is not an armed police force but a [[regiment]] of the [[Indian Army]].<br />

Excluding [[Special Protection Group]] only the following six forces which come under [[Ministry of Home Affairs (India)|Ministry of Home Affairs]] have been considered as [[Central Armed Police Forces|Central Armed Police forces]] (CAPFs) from March 2011 to avoid confusion. Before 2011 they were considered as CPOs since 01 Jan 1986. From 1986 to 2011 the Central Armed Police Forces were considered as Central Police Forces (CPO).[2] However, as per their respective acts they all are Armed Police Forces.[3][4]
