In 1947, India won independence that saw not only the end of the [[British Raj]] but also the [[Partition of India|partition of India]], that brought about a big change in India’s borders. Habra municipality covers an area of 21.82 sq km. <ref name= ‘municipality’/>

Habra had a total literacy rate of 89.96%.<ref name = ‘census1’/>

Habra UA includes Habra municipality, [[Ashoknagar Kalyangarh]] municipality, [[Anarberia]] ([[Census town|census town]]), [[Bara Bamonia]] (CT), [[Guma, India|Guma]] (CT), and [[Khorddabamonia]] (CT). <ref name= ‘census2’/>

Habra Bazar is an active business centre, which is said to be the largest business hub in the state after Burrabazar. [[ Habra railway station]], on the [[Sealdah–Bangaon line]], is about 45 km from [[Sealdah railway station]]. <ref name= ‘habra’/>

Habra is on [[Jessore Road]]. At present the Shyambazar to Barasat sector is [[National Highway 12 (India)|NH 12]] and the Barasat to Petrapole sector is [[National Highway 112 (India)|NH 112]].
