Zarugumalli is a village and a gram panchayat in Prakasam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the mandal headquarters of Zarugumalli mandal in Ongole revenue division.[1] [2]

History[edit]

Ongole district was created in 1970 with three revenue divisions of Kurnool, Guntur and Nellore districts. In 1972, it was renamed Prakasam district in memory of Tanguturi Prakasam, freedom fighter, chief Minister of undivided Madras state and the first chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. Presently (2023), it has 38 mandals in 3 revenue divisions.[3][4][5]

Geography[edit]

Zarugumalli covers an area of 16.37 sq km. It is 42 km from Markapur.[2]

Demographics[edit]

According to the 2011 census, Zarugumalli village had a population of 5,912. It had a literacy rate of 60.15%.[2]

Education[edit]

The following institutions are in Zarugumalli :

  • Vijaya Bharathi Junior College, established in 2007 at Kamepalli, Zarugumalli, is a Telugu medium coeducational institution, having facilities for teaching in classes XI and XII.[6]
  • Zilla Parishad High School, established in 1961 at Zarugumalli, is a Telugu medium coeducational institution, having facilities for teaching from class VI to class XII.[7]
  • Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, established in 2011 at Zarugumalli, is a Telugu medium girls only residential institution, having facilities for teaching from class VI to class XII.[8]

Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) scheme was launched by the Government of India in August 2004 for setting up residential schools at an upper primary level for girls belonging predominantly to the Scheduled cast Scheduled tribe, other backward class, and minorities in difficult areas. It has gone through several stages of development.[9]

Samagra Shiksha, introduced in 2018-19 by the department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India, subsumes earlier introduced Schemes of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and Teacher Education (TE). It aims to support States in implementation of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009; and other related schemes. There is a fund sharing basis between the central and state government, with a major portion being borne by the central government. By 2030, ensure that all boys and girls complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes.[10]
