Tanguturu is a village in Prakasam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the mandal headquarters of Tanguturu mandal in Ongole revenue division.[1][2]

History[edit]

Ongole district was created in 1970 with three revenue divisions of Kurnool, Guntur and Nellore districts. In 1972, it was renamed Prakasam district in memory of Tanguturi Prakasam, freedom fighter, chief Minister of undivided Madras state and the first chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. Presently (2023), it has 38 mandals in 3 revenue divisions.[3][4][5]

Geography[edit]

Tanguturu covers an area of 37.6 sq km.[6]

Demographics[edit]

According to the 2011 census, Tanguturu village had a population of 27,652. It had a literacy rate of 68.68%.[2]

Transport[edit]

Tanguturu railway station is a station in the Vijayawada railway division of South Central Railway. It has 3 platforms and 14 trains stop at this station. It is 19 km from Ongole Railway Station.[7]

Education[edit]

The following institutions are in Tanguturu:

  • Sri Pothula Chenchaiah Memorial Government Junior College, established in 1971 at Tangutur, is a Telugu medium coeducational institution, with facilities for teaching in classes XI and XII.[8]
  • Government High School, established in 1954 at Tangatur, is a Telugu medium coeducational institution having facilities for teaching from class VI to class X.[9]
  • Sri Chaitanya High School, established in 2007, is an English medium coeducational institution having facilities for teaching from class VI to class X.[10]
  • Bhashyam Public School, established in 2013 at Tangutur, is an English medium co-educational institution having facilities for teaching from class I to class X.[11]
