Talluru is a village and a gram panchayat in Prakasam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the mandal headquarters of Talluru mandal in Ongole revenue division.[1][2]

History[edit]

Ongole district was created in 1970 with three revenue divisions of Kurnool, Guntur and Nellore districts. In 1972, it was renamed Prakasam district in memory of Tanguturi Prakasam, freedom fighter, chief Minister of undivided Madras state and the first chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. Presently (2023), it has 38 mandals in 3 revenue divisions.[3][4][5]

Geography[edit]

Talluru covers an area of 20.62 sq km. It is 38 km from Ongole.[2]

Demographics[edit]

According to the 2011 census, Talluru village had a population of 8,313. It had a literacy rate of 56.56%.[2]

Education[edit]

The following institutions are in Talluru:

  • Government Junior College, established in 1977 at Tallur, is a Telugu medium coeducational institution, having facilities for teaching in classes XI and XII.[6]
  • VK Government High School, established in 1948 at Tallur, is a Telugu-medium coeducational institution, having facilities for teaching from class VI to class X.[7]
  • Sri Saraswathi High School, established in 1997 at Tallur, is a Telugu medium coeducational institution, having facilities for teaching from class VI to class X.[8]
  • Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, was established in 2011 at Tallur, is a Telegu medium girls only institution, having facilities for teaching from class VI to class X.[9]

Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) scheme was launched by the Government of India in August 2004 for setting up residential schools at an upper primary level for girls belonging predominantly to the Scheduled cast Scheduled tribe, other backward class, and minorities in difficult areas. It has gone through several stages of development.[10]

Samagra Shiksha, introduced in 2018-19 by the department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India, subsumes earlier introduced Schemes of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and Teacher Education (TE). It aims to support States in implementation of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009; and other related schemes. There is a fund sharing basis between the central and state government, with a major portion being borne by the central government. By 2030, ensure that all boys and girls complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes.[11]
