Vinjamur is an upcoming town in Nellore district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the mandal headquarters of Vinjamur mandal.

History[edit]

Nellore district formed part of the composite Madras State till 1 October 1953. On 1 November 1956 when the states were reorganized on a linguistic basis, this district came under the Andhra Pradesh State.[3]

In 1970 Prakasam district was formed from parts of Guntur, Kurnool, and Nellore districts.[4]

Tirupati District formed from a part of old Chittoor district and a part from old Nellore district on 4 April 2022.[5]

The name of Nellore district has been changed as Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore District on 4 June 2008.[3]

Irrigational facilities[edit]

Borewells are the main source of drinking and irrigated water. Yarraballipalem Pond and Pathur Pond are important ponds. Water supply to agriculture in vinjamur is through the following sources. Wells / Bore wells: 150 hectares

Ponds: 403 hectares [6]

Demographics[edit]

As of 2011 Census of India, the town had a population of 30,250. The total population constitute, 15,200 males, 15,050 females and 2,348 children, in the age group of 0–6 years. The average literacy rate stands at 80.31% with 13,294 literates, higher than the national average of 73.00%.[7]
