Halwara International Airport[1] (IATA: HWR, ICAO: VIHX) also known as Ludhiana International Airport is an international airport sitiated in the town of Halwara in Ludhiana, Punjab, India, on the former site of the Halwara Air Force Station.[2][3]
It is the third international airport in Punjab after Amritsar and Chandigarh.[4] The site is 32-km drive from Ludhiana City and the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) has acquired 161.27 acres of land[5] in Halwara for the building of a Ludhiana international civil terminal. The airport is being built to accommodate Boeing 737-700 and Airbus A320 aircraft. The upcoming airport is likely to accelerate the growth of businesses in Ludhiana.[6] Air India is set to start flights to the airport, once it has been handed over to AAI.[7]
The airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1 February 2026.[8]

The airport was inaugurated on 1st February 2026 by PM Narendra Modi. The airport is now operational. Air India has announced two flights from Indra Gandhi International Airport, Delhi to Ludhiana starting from 15th May, 2026. The Bookings have started for the flights from 1st April 2026. Other carriers like Indigo are in the documentation stage.
