Penamaluru is an outgrowth in the Krishna district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is an outgrowth of Vijayawada in Ward No. 0089. It is the mandal headquarters of Penamaluru mandal earlier in the Vijayawada revenue division and now in the Vuyyuru revenue division.[1][2]

History[edit]

Krishna district was formed by renaming Machilipatnam district and adding certain taluks of Guntur district in 1859. Krishna district was divided into Krishna and Godavari districts in 1925. During the reorganisation of Andhra Pradesh Krishna district was further divided into Krishna and NTR districts. [3]

Krishna district has 25 mandals spread across three revenue divisions – Machilipatnam revenue division, Gudivada revenue division and Vuyyuru revenue division. [4]

Demographics[edit]

In the 2011 census, Penamaluru had a population of 13,170, of which 6,689 (51%) were males and 6,481 (49%) were females.[5]

Penamaluru had a literate population of 9,626 and they formed 73.09% of the population.[5]

Vijayawada Urban Agglomeration is spread across Guntur and Krishna districts. Components are Vijayawada (municipal corporation), municipal towns - Tadepalle and Mangalagiri, census townsRamavarappadu, Prasadampadu-Poranki, Tadigadapa, Yanamalakuduru, and 14 outgrowths including Pemanaluru.[6]

Electoral results[edit]

In the 2019 general elections, Balashowry Vallabhaneni of YSR Congress Party won from the Machilipatnam (Lok Sabha constituency). In the 2019 state assembly elections, Kolusu Parthasarathy of YSR Congress Party won from Penamaluru (Assembly constituency).[7]
