The Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha (abbreviated as CHSE(O)) is a Board of Education imparting Senior Higher Secondary (Class 11 & Class 12 Courses) for public and private schools and colleges under the State Government of Odisha, India.

The Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha was established in 1982, with accordance of Odisha Higher Secondary Act 1982, which was assented by the Governor of Odisha on 23 October 1982.

The Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha was formed to regulate, control and develop Higher Secondary Education in the State of Odisha. Though the administrative function council commenced from 7 September 1982, in a rented building at Goutam Nagar, Bhubaneshwar. After some years the council constructed its own administrative building in Samantarapur, Bhubaneshwar and started functioning in its own infrastructure from 2 January 1996. The new name of the campus is being christened as Prajnapitha.[1]

CHSE(O) affiliates all state and private schools and colleges in the state of Odisha.

The council conducts examinations in the streams of Arts, Science, Commerce, and Vocational Education, which includes subjects of

Syllabus[edit | edit source]

CHSE(O) publishes syllabus stream wise every year. For English(alternative) council prescribes textbooks published by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and for other language subjects it prescribes textbooks published by Odisha State Bureau of Textbook Preparation and Production (Bureau). Many other publishers like Modern's abc, Kalyani Publishers, Bureau, Himalaya Publishing House, VK Global Publications, etc. also publish books as per the syllabus of council.

Examinations[edit | edit source]

The Council of Higher Secondary Education (C.H.S.E.) conducts final examinations of intermediate courses like arts, commerce, science and vocational every spring called Annual Higher Secondary Examination (A.H.S.E.) and examinations of other courses prescribed by the council for Class 12.

The evaluation of papers of Annual Higher Secondary Examination is done by the council immediate after the ending of examinations in both offline and online in two phases at different evaluation centres in different districts across Odisha as decided by council. Many post-graduate teachers, lecturers and assistant professors of different government and government-aided higher secondary schools and colleges are appointed by council for the evaluation. Few years before the result of different streams were being declared at different dates; but now days the result of all streams is being declared at same day same time with in fifty days after the ending of examinations.
