Ryan International Schools are a group of private educational institutions in India and other countries. It was founded in 1976 by Dr. Augustine Francis Pinto. The Ryan Group started its first school in Mumbai in 1976 and currently has more than 135 schools located in India, along with other countries.[1][2] The school has presence in major locations of Maharashtra, Delhi-NCR and Karnataka.The group is in collaboration with universities in USA to facilitate learning across global boundaries.[3]

Ryan International Group of Institutions (RIGI) has a centralized command over all of it schools and doesn't follow a franchisee model, and is arguably India's largest private sector schools chain.[4] According to a report by News 18 in September 2017, the group employs over 18,000 faculty members, and over 30,000 students pass from Ryan schools annually. Students of Ryan International Schools are commonly known as Ryanites.[5]

Origins[edit]

In the initial attempts to set up an English Medium school for the middle class in Mumbai, Dr Augustine Francis Pinto, the founder-promoter and the chairman of RIGI set up a small school in 1974, which failed to take off. However, he and Grace Albuquerque (Madam Grace Pinto), who was a teacher at that time, eventually succeeded in establishing St. Xavier's High School in Borivali East, a Mumbai suburb. With the help off Anthony Silvapinto the new head of OLPS School, Chembur. This endeavor with The Silva pintos has led to a long lasting bond between the two families.[6][7]

Ryan International School, Malad[edit]

Ryan International School has two separate schools in Malad under CBSE and ICSE affiliations. The ICSE school in Malad was awarded the Quality School Governance Accreditation by the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training in 2014. Daisy Paul is the Principal of the school.[8]

Ryan International School, Sanpada[edit]

Ryan International School Sanpada is one of the prestigious RIGI schools in Navi Mumbai was established in 2003 and currently has strength of 4500 students, which is a CBSE affiliated co-education facility with classes from Montessori to 12. Principal of this school is Mrs. Muriel Fernandes.

Ryan International School, Kharghar is one of the RIGI schools in Navi Mumbai which is a ICSE, IGCSE, IB & ISC affiliated co-educational facility with classes from Montessori to 12. Principal / Headmaster of the institution is Mrs. Alice Vaz.

Ryan International, Noida is run by the St. Xavier's Educational Society, and was established in the year 1992. The school had 8 students when it first started.

Ryan International School, Goregaon[edit]

Ryan International School, Goregaon was established in 2004 as a Ryan International Group of School and is affiliated with the Indian Council for Secondary Education (ICSE), New Delhi, ISC, and the IGCSE, also known as Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), based in UK. The Goregaon-based school provides for the French language option, Media Studies (ICEFLEX) and the usage of Thin Clients in the secondary section.[10]

Founded in the year 2009, Ryan International School, Chembur was started with classes from Play Group & Montessori up to Grade 7. The school has been following the ICSE course pattern and currently has the strength of approximately 2000 kids. Philomeena Dsouza is the Principal of this school.

Ryan International School, Kandivali[edit]

Situated in North Mumbai, Ryan International School, Kandivali was founded on June 12, 2006 and follows the CBSE curriculum. Anjali Bowen is the Principal of this school.

Ryan International School, Raebareli is one of the RIGI schools in Uttar Pradesh which is a ICSE affiliated co-educational facility with classes from 1 to 12 . The school has a student strength of 1500 (approx.).

Ryan International School, Mangaluru ICSE[edit]

Ryan International School, Mangaluru is recently established in the outskirt of Mangalore in the year 2017 after a high demand. It's one of the RIG of school affiliated with ICSE . Locals expect another Ryan branch in the Suburb of Mangalore city. Principal of this school is Mrs. Helen Lobo.

Ryan International School, Kundalahalli is one of the RIGI schools in Karnataka which is a ICSE and IGCSE affiliated co-educational facility with classes from Montessori to 12 . The school has a student strength of 3000 (approx.) Principal of this school is Mrs. Vidya Guruprasad.

Ryan International School, Masdar City[edit]

Ryan International School, Masdar City is one of the branches of Ryan International School, which is located in Abu Dhabi, Masdar City, UAE. It follows the CBSE curriculum, and gives the option to chose between Hindi and French studies, however Arabic studies is mandatory. Currently, As of June 2021 it has classes from KG1 to Grade 8. As of March 2022, the principal of this school is Pradnya Chachad.

Academics[edit]

Ryan International Group follows CBSE, ICSE, SSC-HSC, and IGCSE (A & O Level), International Baccalaureate (IB) - Primary Years Programme (PYP) in different schools under its umbrella. In the 2019, 10th and 12th Results, students of Ryan International Group secured top ranks in district, school and national level in both the ICSE and CBSE formats.[1]

The schools in Sharjah, Sanpada, Mangaluru, Bengaluru and Abu Dhabi have adopted the Tata ClassEdge technology [11]

  • 2015 - 12 schools of Ryan International Group of Institutions were ranked among the best schools in the international, CBSE and ICSE.[13]
  • 2015 - Madam Grace Pinto; Managing Director of the group, received The World's Greatest Leaders Award 2015 by the United Research Services Media Consulting PL and AsiaOne Magazine at the Indo-UAE Business Summit 2015, held in the United Arab Emirates.[14][15]
  • 2017 - Madam Grace Pinto was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement in Education by MidDay.[16]

Extra curricular[edit]

International Children's Festival of Performing Arts[edit]

The school hold yearly International Children's Festival of Performing Arts .[20] The 14th edition of the event held in January 2016 in Mumbai with the theme ‘Celebrating Diversity’. The event attracted over 40,000 students, including notable individuals from India and 17 different countries.[21][22][23]

Controversy[edit]

On 8 September 2017, Pradyuman Thakur, a student of the Ryan International School in Gurugram, was murdered. The killing was planned by a class 11 student in order to postpone exams and parent-teacher meetings.[24] Other students of the same school and their parents told that violence and bullying are common at the school[25] and that school authorities act to hide the incidents rather than take steps to control them.[26] After this murder case the principal, Neerja Batra, was suspended and there was a case filed against Ryan Group and Pinto family.[27]
