Kannappa is an upcoming Indian Telugu action adventure drama film based on the true story of Kannappa.[4][5] The film is directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh[6] shot in Telugu and will be dubbed to other south Indian languages including Hindi. First story written by Tanikella Bharani and later script developed and written by V. Vijayendra Prasad, Paruchuri Gopala Krishna, G. Nageswara Reddy, Thota Prasad, Sainath Thotapalli. Produced by Mohan Babu under the banner 24 Frames Factory and AVA Entertainment.[7] The film features Vishnu Manchu, Prabhas,[8] Mohan Babu and the movie team has made an announcement that prominent lead characters from various film industries will be joining the film.[9][10]

The film was announced on 18 August 2023 with the pooja ceremony at Srikalahasteeswara temple announcing the epic title Kannappa and began its production in September 2023. Filming will be taking place in New Zealand, Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad.[11] The film score and soundtrack album are composed by Mani Sharma and Stephen Devassy with cinematography by Sheldon Chau and editing by Anthony.[12]

On 18 August 2023, the project was officially announced with the epic title Kannappa and it is Vishnu's 20th film as the lead actor. The film marks Mukesh Kumar Singh's directorial debut in Telugu cinema. The project was producer under 24 Frames Factory and AVA Entertainments.[13] The production house made a public announcement on 18 August 2023, confirming shooting has begun.[14]

Pre-production[edit]

First written by Tanikella Bharani and narrated to Vishnu and later the story is developed by V. Vijayendra Prasad known for his contribution to Baahubali: The Beginning and RRR movies and later the story masterfully developed by Paruchuri Gopala Krishna, G. Nageswara Reddy and Thota Prasad. Dialogues written by Mihir Bhuta, Sai Madhav Burra and Sainath Thotapalli.[15][16] The intricate set designing by art director Chinna for the world of Kannappa.[17]

Sheldon Chau is the cinematographer for the movie and the technical team of the film consist of editor Anthony Gonsalves, dance choreographers are Prem Rakshith master and Brinda, stunt choreography by Kecha Khamphakdee. Project designing by Daniel Castro and project head for the film is Alonso Dominguez.[18]

Casting[edit]

Vishnu Manchu plays as a Kannappa[19] lead role as a devote of Lord Shiva and Prabhas confirmed as the role of Lord Shiva[20] in the movie and the movie team as announced that lead characters from all the film industries of South India and Bollywood are joining the film.

Filming[edit]

Production house as announced that the actual filming of the movie is going to start from the 1st week of October 2023 that is in one schedule of 90 days in the locations of New Zealand.[21][22]

Music[edit]

Mani Sharma and Stephen Devassy composing the soundtrack album and background score for the film and it is their first collaboration with Vishnu.[23]
