The 12982 / 12981 Chetak Express is a Superfast Express express train belonging to Indian Railways - North Western Railway zone that runs between Udaipur City and Delhi Sarai Rohilla in India.

It operates as train number 12982 from Udaipur City to Delhi Sarai Rohilla and as train number 12981 in the reverse direction serving the states of Rajasthan, Haryana & Delhi.

It is named after the legendary horse of Maharana Pratap - Chetak who has been immortalized in the ballards of Rajasthan. Previously this train ran as a Meter Gauge Express till 2004.

Coaches[edit]

The 12982/12981 Chetak Express has 1 AC 2 tier, 2 AC 3 tier, 8 Sleeper Class, 6 General Unreserved & 2 SLR (Seating cum Luggage Rake) Coaches. It does not carry a Pantry car coach.

As is customary with most train services in India, Coach Composition may be amended at the discretion of Indian Railways depending on demand.

Service[edit]

The 12982 Chetak Express covers the distance of 673 km (418 mi) in 12 hours 10 mins (55.32 km/hr) & in 11 hours 55 mins as 12981 Chetak Express (56.48 km/hr).

As the average speed of the train is above 55 km/h (34 mph), as per Indian Railway rules, its fare includes a superfast surcharge.

The 12982/12981 Chetak Express runs from Udaipur City via Mavli Junction, Chittaurgarh Junction, Bhilwara, Nasirabad, Ajmer Junction, Kishangarh, Phulera Junction, Ringas Junction, Nim Ka Thana, Narnaul, Rewari, Gurgaon, Delhi Cantonment to Delhi Sarai Rohilla.

As large sections of the route are yet to be fully electrified, an Abu Road based WDM 3A or Bhagat Ki Kothi based WDP 4 / WDP 4D locomotive powers the train for its entire journey.
