Adyar Ananda Bhavan (also known as A2B) is a chain of vegetarian restaurants and confectioners founded in Rajapalayam and headquartered in Adyar, Chennai, India. It is the oldest such chain in Chennai and has 145+ outlets across India. Over the years, its range of products has expanded to include a wide variety of vegetarian foods & snacks, fruits and vegetables.

History[edit]

A2B was founded by Late Thiru. K.S. Thirupathi Raja[3][4] founder of Guru Sweets in Rajapalayam[3]in 1960's,[5] Srinivasa Sweets in Bangalore (Sriramapuram)[6] and Sri Ananda Bhavan in Washermenpet, Chennai. This was followed by the opening of a branch in Adyar which prompted the company to add Adyar to the name Ananda Bhavan which is now called Adyar Ananda Bhavan.

Adyar Ananda Bhavan, now operates with over 145 branches all over India,[3] most of which are in South India.

Adyar Ananda Bhavan is now managed & run by Thiru. K.T. Venkatesan & Thiru. K.T. Srinivasa Raja,[7] sons of Founder, Late Thiru. K.S. Thirupathi Raja.

Growth and Operations[edit]

Historical achievements of Adyar Ananda Bhavan:[3]

  • Started initially with Rajapalayam in 1960's and later expanded to Bengaluru(Malleswaram) in 1978 and Chennai(Royapuram) in 1980.[5]
  • Started with Ananda Bhavan subsequently changed to Adyar Ananda Bhavan.
  • Started in Chennai in 1979 as Sri Ananda Bhavan in Washermanpet by Thirupathi Raja and his elder son K T Venkatesan. In 1988, opened second outlet in Chennai in Adyar. In 1992 expanded with third outlet in Purasaiwakkam and later expanded in short time.
  • In 1994, they crossed 100 crore in turnover.
  • Currently more than 10,000 employees with 800 crore in turnover.[5]
  • 140 Outlets with many having attached restaurants named A2B.[5][8] Revenue sharing policy followed in 15 outlets and rest are owned by Company. While the company owns property in five places other places are rented.
  • In 2000, they expanded to Pondicherry, and reached 20 branches in Chennai with total turnover of 150 crores.
  • Currently cities with major outlets are Chennai (50 outlets) and Bengaluru (36 outlets) where it has centralised kitchen for preparing food and delivering to various outlets in respective places.
  • In 2018, Company launches food delivery app “A2B”, for delivery of its restaurant delicacies of South or North Indian taste, Chinese or Tandoori, Savouries or sweets to customers at home from its closest location in respective towns.[12]
