Khawzawl is a census town in Khawzawl district in the Indian state of Mizoram.
Demographics
As declared in the 2011 Indian census,[1] Khawzawl is a Notified Town city in Khawzawl, Mizoram. Khawzawl city is divided into 5 wards for which elections are held every 5 years. The Khawzawl Notified Town has a population of 11,022, of which 5,616 are males and 5,406 are females, as reported in the 2011 Indian census.
The population of children aged 0-6 is 1,746, accounting for 15.84 % of the total population of Khawzawl (NT). In Khawzawl Notified Town, the Female Sex Ratio is 963 against the state average of 976. Moreover, the Child Sex Ratio in Khawzawl is around 938 compared to the Mizoram state average of 970. The literacy rate of Khawzawl city is 96.64%, higher than the state average of 91.33%. In Khawzawl, Male literacy is around 97.39%, while the female literacy rate is 95.86%.
Administration
Khawzawl is the district headquarters of the Khawzawl district. There are various government offices in the town of Khawzawl. The local administration consists of 10 Village panchayats (village councils) namely Lungvar, Darngawn, Arroveng, Zaingen, Zuchhip, Dinthar, Kawnzar, Vengthar, Electric veng, Hermon veng.

The main centre of Higher Education is Khawzawl College.[2]

Formation as a district
The Government of Mizoram ordered the creation of offices of the Deputy Commissioners of Hnahthial, Saitual and Khawzawl Districts vide a notification dated 3rd June 2019, after which the three Districts started becoming operational.[5] Khawzawl used to be part of the Champhai district and is now an independent district.
