Naagini (Tamil: நாகினி) was an Tamil language supernatural fantasy thriller television series produced by Ekta Kapoor under Balaji Telefilms. Spanning five seasons, the series airs on Colors Tamil and traces the lives and revenge of shape-shifting serpents.[1]

The first season aired on Sun TV (India) from 27 June 2016 to 21 January 2017 Ended with 178 Episodes. However, It relaunched on 1 February 2018 on Colors Tamil. It starred Mouni Roy, Arjun Bijlani and Adaa Khan as Shivanya, Karthick and Shreya. It became one of the highest-rated shows on Indian television.
The second season aired on Colors Tamil from 20 February 2018 to 5 June 2018 Ended with 76 Episodes.[1][2]It starred Mouni Roy, Karanvir Bohra and Adaa Khan as Shivani, Rocky and Shreya.[3][4]
The third season aired on Colors Tamil from 18 June 2018 to 7 June 2019 Ended with 206 Episodes. It starred Surbhi Jyoti, Pearl V Puri, Rajat Tokas and Anita Hassanandani as Meena, Mahir, Vikrant and Vishaka, respectively.[5]
The fourth season premiered on 17 February 2020 on Colors Tamil and abruptly stopped in March 2020 due to COVID-19 Pandemic. After 9 months, It re-premiered on 9 December 2020, Ended on 20 January 2021 with 37 Episodes. It starred Nia Sharma, Vijayendra Kumeria, Jasmin Bhasin and Rashami Desai as Brinda, Dev, Nandhitha and Saritha, respectively.[6]
The fifth season aired on Colors Tamil replacing Season 4 from 21 January 2021 to 2 April 2021 Ended with 62 Episodes. It starred Surbhi Chandna, Sharad Malhotra and Mohit Sehgal as Bavani, Veera and Jana, respectively.[7]
A spin-off of the fifth season titled Vandhathu Neeya was launched on 3 April 2021 replacing Naagini 5.

Plot
Season 1
Shivanya and Shreya are naaginis who decide to avenge the death of Shivanya's parents for by the Sangaran family. Shivanya marries Karthick and starts killing the murderers one by one. Shreya falls for Karthick and joins hands with Yamuna. They frame Shivanya for murder to provoke Karthick against her. Shivanya and Karthick confess their love and consummate which makes Shivanya lose her powers. Sivasangaran kills himself to give Shivanya her powers back. Shivanya kills Yamuna, defeats Shreya and protects the naagamani.
Season 2
Three months later
Shivanya delivers her daughter, Shivani in the third month of her pregnancy which shocks the doctors. Yamuna is resurrected.
24 years later
Shivani grows up with Shivanya and falls in love with Rocky, Yamuna's foster son. Yamuna murders Shivanya which provokes Shivani and she decides to avenge her mother. Rocky joins Shivani to kill Shreya and Yamuna, but ultimately kills Shivani under orders from Karthick. Shivani feels betrayed and takes an oath to find out the truth about her death.
Season 3
Naagarani Ruhi unites with her lover Vikrant after 100 years and they are set to marry each other. However, Yuvraj and his friends molest Ruhi and attack Vikrant leading to his death. Ruhi is distraught but she vows to return for revenge.
Six months later
Vishaka Khanna, a rich investor arrives and attempts to kill Yuvraj, but he manages to survive. Mahir is compelled to marry Meena who is revealed to be Ruhi. She falls in love with Mahir. On finding out the truth about Meena's identity, Mahir is shattered. He loses his memory and forgets Meena after Sumitra bites him.
Six months later
Meena uses Naagamani to bring back Mahir's memories and they consummate their relationship. Sumitra seeks help from Hukkum who tries to impregnate Meena to give birth to a demon child. Vishaka takes Meena's place and gives birth to Taamsi, who grows up in a matter a seconds and kills Hukkum. Meena and Mahir obtain Naagamani but it is cursed by Shivani. They can only obtain it after their reincarnation. Meena and Mahir die.
25 years later
Meena reincarnates into Shravani and Mahir reincarnates into Mihir. They unite with each other. Vikrant is killed by Taamsi and Sumitra. Learning Shivani's story, Shravani tricks Karthick and Rocky to bring Shivani to the temple and Shivani returns to help Shravani. Yamuna is killed by Shivani. It is revealed how it was Shreya who killed Shivani in the form of Rocky. Free from their guilt, Karthick dies and unites with Shivanya, while Rocky and Shivani start a life together. Shravani kills Sumitra, Taamsi and Shreya and marries Mihir.
Season 4
Naagini princess Manasa marries Keshav a human, thus losing her power and gives birth to Nandhitha. Keshav is killed by the Parekh family. Manasa escapes and waits for her daughter's 25th birthday to avenge her husband's murder. As due to Manasa's parent's curse she and her daughter must wait for 25 years to regain their powers.
25 years later
The Parekh family still fear the Naagini being alive and returning for her revenge. Manasa waits for her daughter Nandhitha's 25th birthday.
Dev Parikh returns from Qatar to India. He meets Brinda there who he recalled was his childhood friend. However, Brinda had been engaged to Ranjith. Nandhitha waits to get her naagini powers, however, the powers go to Brinda instead, who is later revealed to have been switched at birth with Nandhitha. Meanwhile, Dev who is son of Keshav's murderer, falls in love with Brinda. Nandhitha discovers that Brinda is a Naagini and also Manasa's original daughter and all the Naagini powers are with her but not for Nandhitha. Nandhitha is shattered on learning that her mother would need Brinda more than her and thereafter, tries to kill her. Meanwhile, Parekh family comes to know that Nandhitha is Manasa's daughter and they think Nandhitha is the naagini but they don't stop her because they are aware of the fact that if a naagini marries a human her powers would decrease, unaware of the fact that it will only happen due to a curse. Vrushali and crew send their sons to kill Nandhitha, and in the meantime they try to kill Manasa with the help of Brinda's father who is a priest. But Manasa reacquires her powers and tries to kill the Parekh family but Brinda comes in there and Parekh family escapes. Nandhitha is killed by the Parekh family's sons. Manasa and Brinda are reunited and at first Brinda doesn't believe Manasa but witnesses Nandhitha's death and vows that she will avenge her father's, father's family's and her sister's death and Brinda marries Dev to avenge her family's death.
Vishaka returns with the motive of getting Naagamani and saves Nandhitha in order to capture the Naagamani as people who were born on Ashlesha star only can touch naagamani but eventually fails. Dev who was also born on that star accidentally touches the naagamani and it is stored on his head. Enraged and disappointed Vishaka captures Nandhitha and traps her in a pillar. Vishaka enters Parekh's house with a grave motive. She creates misunderstandings between Brinda and Dev. Later she takes Dev's form and kills Manasa in front of Brinda making Brinda think it was Dev who killed her mother. Brinda vows avenge her parents by killing Dev and his entire family.
1 year later
Vishaka kills and takes Mundika's identity and power and gives Nandhitha a new face and identity, Saritha. Dev and Saritha marry. Brinda realizes that Dev did not kill Manasa. Saritha finds out that Mundika is Vishaka's new identity. Saritha manages to frame Vishaka as the murderer and she is imprisoned.
Brinda and Dev confess their love. Dev asks Saritha for divorce as he loves Brinda. Saritha hypnotizes Dev to detach him from Brinda. Brinda's identity is revealed to Dev. Vishaka enters the Parikh house and murders the entire family under Brinda's disguise and spares Dev to obtain the Naagamani.
The very next day Brinda finds herself in the Shivan Temple and is puzzled to see a dying Dev. Thereafter Vishaka and Saritha enters the temple. Brinda finds out that Saritha is Nandhitha under a new identity. Shreya and Naagarani Shravani arrives to help Brinda and Dev. Vishaka is killed by Brinda and Naagarani Shravani while Saritha is killed by Shreya. Dev dies too while leaving Brinda devastated. Naagarani Shravani summons Sarvashreshtha Aadi Naagini Naageswari. The four perform a Tandava to impress Lord Shiva to obtain Naagamani from Dev. Naageswari narrates her story which happened thousands of years ago to Brinda in order to revive Dev.
Season 5
The story starts ten thousand years ago when eagles had the power to shape shift. When the eagles attacked the snakes to obtain Naagamani, Lord Shiva blessed the shapeshifting ability to snakes and named the first naagini to get this power, Naageshwari. She was in love with a naaga Udhaya while the prince of eagles, Aakesh falls in love with her despite the enmity between the clans. Aakesh plots to attack the snakes and get Naagamani. He enters the Temple with his force and kills Udhaya with his army. However, he is killed by Naageshwari after which she is cursed by Lord Shiva for failing to protect other serpents but also gets boon to return after 10,000 years. She kills herself to return to unite with her lover after 10,000 years. On completing the story, Dev is brought back to life and he reunites with Brinda. The two return. According to the condition of Lord Shiva, Naageshwari has to take rebirth to complete her lovestory but the history was set to change this time.
40 years later
Naageshwari is reincarnated as Bavani who has lost her parents while Udhaya has reincarnated as Jana, a restaurant owner who has lost his parents too. Aakesh too has reborn as Veera. Veera messes up Bavani's friend Noor's marriage after which he fights with Jana. Bavani stops him and Veera falls for her while Bavani continuously hates him. Veera is initially shown as a playboy but when he meets Bavani, he calls her his "love at first sight" aka sweetheart and becomes madly obsessed with her. Bavani loses her calm after she sees Veera's brothers burying Noor's corpse. Veera plans to win Bavani's love and marry her so he instead sends a marriage alliance for her sister Meera, knowing Bavani would never let him marry her sister. Jana and Bavani reach the Shivan Temple and remember the previous births where Jana is revealed to be her lover Udhaya's reincarnation and they both realise Veera is in fact Aakesh's rebirth. So, Bavani plans to marry Jana the same day as Veera and Meera. Out of jealousy Veera asks his brothers to kidnap Jay. Veera's twin brother Teera is released and he throws Jana down the cliff. Bavani witnesses Jana's death and to seek revenge she kills Teera thinking him to be Veera. However, in reality, Shukla was the one who took Teera's life which no one was aware about. When Veera comes to know of his brother's death, he forcefully marries Bavani and promises to torture her.
Jana is revealed to be alive and all the while faking his friendship with Bavani to receive her powers. Jana poses many problems for Bavani with his allies but Veera saves Bavani each time and foils Jana's evil plans. Later, it was revealed to Bavani that she is not Teera's killer and she told this to Veera. Veera's mother Chandrakala is exposed as to be Markaat who was Bavani's biggest enemy from the Satyuga era. It is later revealed that Jana is also her son. Markaat loses to Bavani after Veera saves Bavani and Jana pretends to help Bavani. Slowly Bavani appreciates the goodness in Veera and begins to like him. Markat is trapped in a cave but her evil powers endanger Bavani and her family. Bavani begins to like being with Veera and eventually falls deeply in love with him. She reciprocates his feelings and they consummate their marriage. But upon waking up the very next morning, Veera claims she means nothing to him, and it was all a lie from the start. Bavani learns that Veera has been hypnotised by Maarkat's powers and returns him to normal.
Both Veera and Bavani go through a series of test and trials before they finally get together. Towards the end Bavani confesses her love to Veera, and they were meant to be together no matter where they go. The show ends with Veera and Bavani dying after a shooting star falls on them but their child is delivered safely on earth. They see over their child and give blessings to their child and leave. Jana attempts to kill their child but fails and dies. True love of cheel and naagini creates a new history in the universe. Their love was strong and could not be defeated by anyone.
