Jagdish's grandmother gets him remarried to a girl named Gauri but Bhairon opposes the marriage and the panchayat announces their marriage as unlawful. Anandi returns to her home village. Since both Jagdish and Anandi are going through changes, their families decide that they should stay away from each other until they're both adolescents. Anandi returns to her home with her parents. However Jagdish misses her and goes to visit her, where they meet for the last time.
5 years later, Anandi returns to the Singh haveli but Jagdish insults her for being uneducated. She goes to the village's temple where she meets Sandhya who inspires her to raise her voice. When Anandi hits her head on a rock and gets injured, Jagdish takes her to the hospital but finds no doctor there. This motivates him to become a doctor and he goes to Mumbai to study. He meets Gauri there and falls in love with her. Jagdish wants to marry Gauri so he decides to leave Anandi. Bhairon breaks ties with Jagdish for cheating Anandi. Gauri marries Jagdish, believing that his child marriage is invalid, but Jagdish's family won't accept his new marriage. Anandi refuses to file a lawsuit.
Gauri becomes pregnant but miscarries and becomes vengeful against the family. Anandi educates village girls, campaigns against child marriage, and becomes the Sarpanch Bitiya of Jaitsar, sends divorce papers to Jagdish, which he angrily signs. Jagdish and Anandi get divorced and Anandi tries to move on. In an event, Anandi impresses district collector Shivraj Shekhar. Meanwhile, Jagdish gets to know how Gauri had separated him from his family and divorces her for cheating and vows to reunite with Anandi. Despite Jagdish's interference, Anandi and Shivraj are married and move to Udaipur.
Jagdish meets former child bride Ganga and helps her to become a nurse. Sanchi, Shivraj's sister, develops a crush on Jagdish. Due to a misunderstanding, he agrees to marry her. Sanchi tries to turn Sumitra, Jagdish's mother, against Ganga. Ratan, Ganga's abusive husband, attacks Jagdish's family, leading Ganga to divorce him. Sanchi and Jagdish become engaged and Jagdish returns to Mumbai to study. Ganga goes to study in Mangalore where she is attacked and wrongly jailed.
6 months later, Jagdish completes his studies. After realizing that Sanchi wants to marry him in spite of Anandi, Jagdish cancels their engagement but won't tell the family why. He marries Ganga, causing conflict with the family. Sanchi files a lawsuit against Jagdish but Ganga records a phone call from Sanchi which proves her evil plans and Jagdish is cleared of all charges.
Sanchi comes under bad influences, drinks alcohol, and has an affair with Saurabh who rapes her and blackmails her. Anandi encourages her to have lawyer Vivek sue Saurabh. Vivek initially works against her, as he is Saurabh's older brother, but later provides evidence which results in Saurabh being jailed and Vivek disowned. Vivek and Sanchi are married.
Jagdish runs for political office and becomes the Vidhya of Jaitsar. Painter Prakash comes to the village and becomes obsessed with Anandi, who is the likeness of his portrait of Venus. He abducts her under the cover of the Diwali fireworks but is stopped by Shivraj who has him deported back to France.
Shivraj dies while trying to stop a terrorist attack. Then, Anandi delivers twins Nandini and Shivam. Akhiraj, a goon, kidnaps Nandini and renames her Nimboli for marriage to her son Kundan, as revenge for Anandi blocking Kundan's previous child marriage.
11 years later, Nandini, who known as Nimboli, faces domestic violence under Kundan's cruelty. Jagdish finds Nandini and Anandi is reunited with her daughter. Akhiraj is arrested but escapes custody and attempts to kill Anandi's family. Anandi is killed while protecting her children. Jagdish fatally shoots Akhiraj while Nandini and Shivram fall into a river and, presumed dead, are put into an orphanage. They are separated when Shivam is arrested for murdering a man who tried to rape Nandini.
Lamhe Pyaar Ke
15 years later, Nandini is a physician, adopted into the family of Naren Shekhawat, driven by a promise to her dying mother to provide medical treatment throughout Rajasthan. She receives support for Anandi Memorial Hospital from physician Amit Goel, who falls in love with her.
Nandini marries medical student Krish Malhotra, who she later learns is the stepson of Kundan. She also finds that the groom she approved for her adoptive sister Sudha is actually Shivam, who has become a gangster. Nandini reunites with Shivam. Kundan kidnaps Nandini to force her to remarry him, and is killed by the police.
In the epilogue, Nandini summarizes her family history from Anandi's childhood to her present in a book titled Balika Vadhu.
