Gauravv K. Chawla (born 19 February 1980) is an Indian film director and screenwriter. He started his career as an assistant director and 2nd Unit director with the likes of Rohan Sippy, Shaad Ali and Nikkhil Advani. He made his feature film debut as a director in 2018 with Baazaar.[1]

Personal life[edit]

Born and brought up in Mumbai, Gauravv did his schooling from Mayo College, Ajmer. He further finished his education at HR College of Commerce in Mumbai before embarking on a career in the Hindi film industry.

Career[edit]

Having interned at media companies like Plus Channel and Channel V, Gauravv then went on to work as an assistant director in Ramesh Sippy's company with Rohan Sippy on films like Bluffmaster. He further assisted Shaad Ali in the Yashraj Film’s production Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. Following that Gauravv started working with Nikkhil Advani and assisted and 2nd unit directed with him on films like Chandni Chowk to China, Patiala House and D-Day.

At the same time he also started directed television commercials across the South Asian region for brands like Pepsi, Etisalat, Bigg Boss, Fair and Lovely, etc across countries like India, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. Gauravv also directed and wrote for the acclaimed TV Show called POW Bandi Yudh Ke on Star Plus with Nikkhil Advani[2] and Emmay Entertainment.[3]

Gauravv made his feature film directorial debut with Baazaar[4] in October 2018, starring Saif Ali Khan,[5] Radhika Apte and Chitrangadha Singh.[6] The Film was appreciated Critically and also performed well at the Box office running for more than 50 Days. In 2019, Gauravv was nominated in the best debut director category for Baazaar at the Filmfare Awards and Zee Cine Awards.

His last release was a series for ZEE5, produced by Emmay Entertainment - Kaun Banegi Shikharwati, directed by Gauravv Chawla and Ananya Banerjee.[7] It revolves around the life of a former king, who has a dysfunctional family, devises an outlandish plan to unite his estranged daughters. Meanwhile, an income tax investigation looms over the palace's hidden treasure.

Gauravv's next is an Amazon Prime Video[8] original Hindi horror series Adhura.[9][10] Headlined by Rasika Dugal, Ishwak Singh, Shrenik Arora, and Poojan Chhabra, the series also stars Rahul Dev, Zoa Morani, Rijul Ray, Sahil Salathia, Aru Krishansh Verma, KC Shankar and Jaimini Pathak.[11] Adhura is directed by Ananya Banerjee and Gauravv K. Chawla and will premiere on July 7.[12][13]
