Pseudoscience and controversies[edit]

He has proposed that 'quantum healing' can bring sick persons back to normal,[19][20] a concept widely regarded in the scientific community as pseudoscientific.[21][22]

In 2019, when Hegde was invited to deliver a lecture on "sauce of happiness" at the campus of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, he was called a proponent of "pseudo-science and quackery" by a group of protesting research scholars, who opposed his "bizarre and unsubstantiated" claims, "ridiculing modern medicine" and "promoting unverified remedies or cures" for various ailments. Reacting to the protest, Dr. B M Hegde told PTI that it only indicated "how much the protesters knew about science."[23][24][25][26]

Hegde has also written articles and given talks in support of Homeopathy which is globally regarded as a pseudoscience. The articles and talks are only based on anecdotal evidence and Hegde quickly agrees that Homeopathy is only proven to be a placebo and hence as a placebo it is important in treatment of disease.[27][28][29]
