Vinayak Pandurang Karmarkar (1891–1967) was an Indian artist, famous for his sculptures. [1]
He is best known for his statues of '''Shivaji'''. [2]
A museum has been set up at his house in Sasawane village near Alibag.[citation needed] His father was a farmer. In the village of Sasavane a Shilpalaya is in the name of Vinayak. he was fond of making sculptures right from his childhood. At that time Otto rothfield was the district collector of Sasavane. Then Karmarkar acquired the first rank there. He undertook a study tour several times. The most famous among his other sculptures are 'Shankha-Dhwani', 'Matsya-kanya' and 'Humjoli'. His style was realistic[3]
He is a winner of 1964 Padma Shri Award. [4]
