Vanbawng is a village in the state of Mizoram in India. According to the 2011 census, the population in Vanbawng village is 1,231, comprising 220 households.[2] 609 males (49% of the population) and 622 females (51%) live there. All the residents are members of Scheduled Tribes. The literacy rate is 1,017 (83%). The population of Vanbawng strongly reflects the different communities of the ethnic Mizo people.

Population[edit]

  • Vanbawng is a medium size village located in Phullen Block of Saitual district, Mizoram with 220 total families in residence. The Vanbawng village has a population of 1231 of which 609 are males while 622 are females as per Population Census 2011.
  • In Vanbawng village population of children with age 0-6 is 195 which makes up 15.84% of total population of the village. Average Sex Ratio of Vanbawng village is 1021 which is higher than Mizoram state average of 976. Child Sex Ratio for the Vanbawng as per census is 1191, higher than Mizoram average of 970.
  • Vanbawng village has higher literacy rate compared to Mizoram. In 2011, literacy rate of Vanbawng village was 98.17% compared to 91.33% of Mizoram. In Vanbawng Male literacy stands at 97.88% while female literacy rate was 98.45%.

Geography[edit]

Vanbawng is located in north of the Manipur boarder of Mizoram. It is situated on a ridge 1,132 metres (3715 ft) above sea level, with the Tuivai river valley to its east and the Tuivawl river valley to its west.

Presbyterians make up the majority of the population. However, Baptists, United Pentecostal Church and Seventh-day Adventists also live in the village.

Climate[edit]

Vanbawng has a mild, sub-tropical climate due to its location and elevation. Under the Köppen climate classification, Vanbawng features a humid subtropical climate (Cwa). In summer, temperatures are moderately warm, averaging around 20–30 °C (68–86 °F). In winter, daytime temperatures are cooler in comparison to the rest of the year, averaging around 11–21 °C (52–70 °F).[3] Rainfall is mostly concentrated between April and October, with the heaviest rainfall occurring in May, July, August and September. The remainder of the year is notably drier.
