Tika Lal Taploo was an Indian advocate and member of the BJP from Jammu and Kashmir.[3] Taploo was first among the many Kashmiri Pandits who were killed by Islamic militants in Jammu and Kashmir during the events of 1989 and 1990, which later led to the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus.[4]

Early life and education[edit]

Taploo was a Kashmiri Pandit from Srinagar. He graduated from Panjab University and done his Masters in Arts and LLB from Aligarh Muslim University.

He was active member of the RSS and was practicing as a senior advocate in Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

Death[edit]

On 14 September 1989, Taploo was brutally murdered by the JKLF Militants at his home in Srinagar. The reason behind this was to create fear among Kashmiri Hindus living in the Valley. Before his murder, he had received several threats from Islamic Militant and was attacked. On 14 September, he was shot and murdered at his residence.

His funeral was attended by many senior leaders including BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani.

Soon after his death, a judge of Srinagar High court Nilkanth Ganjoo was also shot dead who sentenced Maqbool Bhat, an Islamic Militant and co-founder of National Liberation Front, to death.

In protest against this, Kashmiri Hindus closed they’re shops and business for a day and remember Tika Lal Taploo’s death as ‘Martyrdom Day’.[5]
