Om[lower-alpha 1] is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed by Rajkumar Periasamy. It is produced by Wunderbar Films and RTake Studios. The film stars Dhanush, Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, Naseeruddin Shah, Sreeleela and Indrans.

The film was officially announced in November 2024 under the tentative title D55, denoting Dhanush's 55th film as a lead actor. Originally backed by Gopuram Films, the project was later moved to Wunderbar Films, with RTake Studios joining as co-producer. Principal photography commenced in February 2026. The official title was announced the following June. The film has music composed by Sai Abhyankkar, cinematography handled by Ezhil Arasu K and editing by R. Kalaivanan.

Om is scheduled to be released on 16 October 2026 in theatres.

While working on his directorial project Raayan (2024), actor Dhanush was reportd to join with director Rajkumar Periasamy for the former's next project, amidst his long line-up of films.[2] The film was reported to be produced by G. N. Anbu Chezhiyan's Gopuram Films, reuniting with Dhanush after Thanga Magan (2015).[3]  After the release of Rajkumar's sophomore, Amaran (2024), the project was officially announced with the working title D55, marking the actor's 55th film in the lead role.[4][5] The official announcement was made on 8 November 2024, thereby confirming the earlier reports stating that the film is produced under Gopuram Films banner by Sushmita Anbuchezhiyan.[6][7] Without revealing much about the plot, Rajkumar in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India mentioned that the film is about many unsung heroes in society,[8] and later in an interaction at the Media & Entertainment Business Conclave revealed that the film is based on a real-life incident.[9] Pre-productions works were underway in December 2024.[10]

A year after the announcement, it was reported that Gopuram Films had withdrawn due to rising production costs, and now Dhanush's Wunderbar Films and Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International are backing the film, replacing Gopuram Films.[11] In late-January 2026, official announcement of the production was made, thereby confirming that the film is to be produced by Wunderbar Films, in association with RTake Studios, which last produced Salaam Venky (2022).[12][13] The technical crew includes cinematographer Ezhil Arasu K, editor R. Kalaivanan, publicity designer Kabilan Chelliah and art director Rajeevan.[14] On 18 June, the official title Om was announced.[15]

After making her debut in Tamil through Parasakthi (2026), Sreeleela was announced as the lead actress on 31 January 2026.[16] On 2 February 2026, Sai Pallavi was officially announced to be a part of the cast, marking her reunion with Rajkumar after Amaran and with Dhanush after Maari 2 (2018).[17][18] Two days later, the makers confirmed Mammootty's inclusion in the film, marking his return to Tamil after Peranbu (2018).[19][20] He reportedly received ₹24 crore (US$3.4 million) as remuneration.[21] Indrans announced his inclusion in June 2026,[22] and Hindi actor Naseeruddin Shah was confirmed a month later. The film marks his return to Tamil cinema after Hey Ram (2000).[23]

A formal muhurat puja ceremony was held in early November 2024.[24] Principal photography began on 5 February 2026 after another puja ceremony.[25] By mid-July, the final filming schedule was underway in Malaysia.[26]

Music[edit | edit source]

The film has music composed by Sai Abhyankkar.[27][28] The first single "Alaakaa Loova" was released on 28 July 2026, Dhanush's birthday.[29][30]
