Makhdumpur is a town and notified area in the Indian state of Bihar.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

According to the 2011 India census, Makhdumpur had a population of 260,154. Males constituted 134,863 of the population and females 125,291. Makhdumpur had an average literacy rate of 64.26 percent—higher than the national average of 59.5 percent—with male literacy at 86 percent and female literacy at 68 percent[clarification needed] but nowadays there has been increase in schools and education in this area. In 2011. 18 percent of the population was under 6. 93.18% population is of Hindu and 6.57% Muslim.

To facilitate the administration, Makhdumpur Block is further divided into 1 town and 117 villages. Nagar Panchayat Makhdumpur cover town area & 23 Gram Panchayat cover 117 villages of Makhdumpur Block.

Transport[edit | edit source]

The NH 83 Patna/Gaya highway passes through Makhdumpur. There is Makhdumpur Gaya railway station in the city.

Infrastructure[edit | edit source]

Makhdumpur Market is the most educated and influential village and supports a railway station, bus stand, police station and referral hospital in close proximity. Makhdumpur, Kayamaganj, Paleya is nearby Market for daily use. Sukhdev Prasad Referral Hospital is a government hospital with 24/7 support near block.

Geography[edit | edit source]

It is situated between Gaya and Jehanabad in the Jehanabad district. It is about 60 km from Patna and 30 km from Gaya.

A river called Jamuna flows through the area but it is of almost no use as it is not suitable for agriculture.[1][2]

A river called Dardha flows from the city. Approx 4 km south from the main city.

Barabar Caves is one of the most visited place in Makhdumpur. It is 11 km far from main city which are buddhist caves build in 320 - 230 BC by the then kings of Magadha Empire. It is one of the oldest man made cave in India.
