Kannur Squad is an upcoming Indian Malayalam-language crime drama film directed by Roby Varghese Raj in his directorial debut. It is written by Muhammed Shafi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rony David. The film stars Mammootty in the lead role, along with Vijayaraghavan, Rony David, Kishore, Shabareesh Varma and Sunny Wayne.

Kannur Squad marks the fourth production of Mammootty Kampany, following Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam.[1] It will also be the directorial debut of cinematographer Roby Varghese Raj.[2] Initially, it was tentatively titled Megastar 421, but in the beginning of 2023, Mammootty revealed that the film's title would be Kannur Squad.[3]

Filming[edit | edit source]

The principal photography of the film began on 27 December 2022.[4][5] Mammootty joined the film set on 1 January 2023.[6] The filming took place in Kannur, Kasaragod, Wayanad, Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, Pala, Pune, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Belgaum, Mangalore and Coimbatore.[7][8] The Pune schedule began on 14 February 2023.[9] The Mumbai schedule was completed in the first week of March 2023.[10] It was followed by a 10-day schedule in Wayanad.[11] After the completion of the Wayanad schedule, some portions were shot near Willingdon Island.[12] The entire filming wrapped on 6 April 2023 after a 91-day schedule.[5]

On 26 February 2023, the makers released a first-look poster featuring Mammootty.[13] A second-look poster was unveiled on 15 April 2023 featuring Mammootty, along with Rony David, Azees Nedumangad, and Shabareesh Varma.[14] During Mammootty's 72nd birthday on 7 September 2023, the official trailer was launched.[15][7]

The songs are composed by Sushin Shyam.[16]

Release[edit | edit source]

The release date of the film is to be announced. Wayfarer Films will distribute the film in Kerala.[17] The overseas distribution will be done by Truth Global Films.[18]
