Production[edit]
Development[edit]
Producer Chakravarthy Ramachandra met Rahul Sadasivan immediately after the release of the director's previous film Bhoothakaalam (2022). In March 2022, Rahul Sadasivan was confirmed to be directing a film for Chakravarthy Ramachandra's production house, with the producer and his partner from YNOT Studios, S. Sashikanth, opting to launch a new genre-specific production house called Night Shift Studios to make Indian horror-thriller genre films for a global audience.[3]
At the launch of the film, Sadasivan noted that the story is "rooted in the dark ages of Kerala" and that he was "glad to be backed by the producers in pushing the boundaries of making the tale into an immersive film experience".[3] The film is planned to be released across five Indian languages simultaneously.[4]
Casting[edit]
The director and producer approached Mammootty in July 2022 to play the lead, which he accepted after the narration. On the collaboration with the actor, the producers noted that they were "honored and thrilled to have the legendary actor" in their inaugural production.[3] Other cast members announced during the film's launch included Arjun Ashokan, Sidharth Bharathan and Amalda Liz.[5]
Malayalam novelist T. D. Ramakrishnan joined the project to work on the film's dialogues.[3] Shehnad Jalal was announced as the cinematographer and Christo Xavier as the music director, while Jothish Shankar worked on the film as a production designer.[5]
Filming[edit]
Principal photography for the project began on 17 August 2023, coinciding with the first day of the Kerala New Year. The shoot started at Kochi's MJI Studios with a customary pooja ceremony, and later continued in Ottapalam.[4] Filming is expected to wrap by 25 October 2023.
