Baselios Geevarghese I was a bishop and the second Catholicos of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. He became catholicos in 1925 and died on 17 December 1928.
Early life[edit | edit source]
Bava was born in Vakathanam, Kottayam district, on 11 January 1870. At the age of sixteen he was ordained as a deacon. He was ordained as a priest and ramban in 1896.[1]
In 1907 he moved to Vakathanam, where he was consecrated a bishop of the Niranam Church on 9 February 1913 and assumed the name Geevarghese Mar Philexinos and was given charge of Kottayam and Angamaly dioceses.[citation needed]
Catholicos[edit | edit source]
He became catholicos 30 April 1925 and assumed the title Baselios Geevarghese I.[citation needed]
Death[edit | edit source]
He died on 17 December 1928 and was succeeded by Baselius Geevarghese II
