Dr. Amar Singh Sidhu is a Doctor (General Surgeon) based in Sirsa, India. He is the owner of the Sidhu Hospitals Group - an Indian Private Hospitals chain. He has a wide ranging experience of 50 years in the medical field and has received various awards and honours from the Indian Medical Association. He himself practices in the states of Rajasthan and Haryana. Sidhu has also been an active politician in the states of Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana. He was first a member of the INC from 2008 until 2019. In 2019, he switched sides and joined the BJP.

Early life[edit]

Amar Singh was born in Ramdasia Sikh Chamar family to Malkiat Singh and Gurdev Kaur.[1][2]

He did M.A in Economics from Barkatullah University and MBBS from Amritsar Medical College, Punjab.[3]

Medical Career[edit]

Dr. AS. Sidhu did his MBBS from SNMC, Jodhpur. He did his MS from Bikaner, Rajasthan. He joined government service as a Doctor in the early 1980s and resigned in the late 1980s after establishing his own private hospital in Sirsa, Haryana. Sidhu gained immense popularity among the locals as a Doctor, he soon expanded his private hospitals chain by establishing hospitals in Nohar, Rajasthan and Ellenabad, Haryana. Sidhu till date majorly practices in these regions.

As a Doctor, Sidhu harboured a rivalry with the then Chief Minister of Haryana Om Prakash Chautala - Sidhu was arrested in the late 1990s and was released soon. Sidhu joined the Indian National Congress in 2008 and challenged Chautala's Indian National Lok Dal from Nohar, Rajasthan. However, he was unsuccessful. Sidhu served as the President of the Doctor's cell in the Congress and was a member of the All India Professionals Congress. He failed consecutively in 2008, 2013, 2018 elections- Sidhu is a relative of Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former minister late. Dr. Digamber Singh. He joined the BJP in 2019 months before the Haryana legislative assembly elections, he was welcome in the party by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and State BJP President Subhash Barala. Sidhu failed in the 2019 Haryana assembly elections too. He remains active in the party organisation.
