Pariwan is a village in the Kulgam tehsil of Kulgam district in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is located approximately 9 kilometres from Kulgam town, which serves as the district and sub-district headquarters.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Pariwan has an average elevation of 1,885 metres (6,184 feet) above sea level.[1]

Demographics[edit | edit source]

According to the 2011 Census of India, Pariwan has a total population of 1,566 people, comprising 793 males and 773 females. The village has 301 households.[1]

The sex ratio of the village is 975 females per 1,000 males, higher than the state average of 889.[1] Children aged 0 to 6 years number 232, making up 14.81 per cent of the total population. The child sex ratio is 917.[1]

Literacy in Pariwan stands at 62.37 per cent, lower than the state average of 67.16 per cent. Male literacy is 72.62 per cent and female literacy is 51.96 per cent.[1] The census recorded no population from Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes in the village.[1]

Pariwan is administered by the Pariwan Gram Panchayat under the Pombay Block Panchayat of Kulgam district. The village's census code is 003980.[2] The nearest town is Kulgam, located approximately 9 kilometres away, which serves as the main administrative and economic hub for the village.

As of the 2011 census, Pariwan had access to both public and private bus services within the village. A railway station was available within 10 kilometres of the village.[1]

The literacy rate of Pariwan was 62.37 per cent as of 2011, with male literacy at 72.62 per cent and female literacy at 51.96 per cent.[1]
