Palnadu district is one of the districts of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
History[edit]
As per Gazettee No. 939 of 26 January 2022, the old Guntur District, formed in 1904, was split into three districts – Guntur, Palnadu and Bapatla.[1]
Geography[edit]
Palnadu district has an area of 7,301.23 Sq km.[2]
The headquarters of Palnadu district is at Narasaraopet. It was formed with Gurazala and Narasaraopet revenue divisions from old Guntur district.[3][4]Sattenapalli Revenue Division was formed along with the new district.
The rivers in the district are the Krishna, Naguleru, Chandravanka and Gundlakamma.[2]
Demographics[edit]
As per the census of 2011, the population of Palnadu district was 20,41,723, of which 22.43% was urban population.[2] Palnadu district had a literacy rate of 53.19%.[2]

Minerals available in the district are limestone, lime. lime stonekankar, napa slabs, copper and lead. There are cement factories of Macherla and copper mines at Agnigundala of Ipur Mandal.[2] Out of the total area of 7,301.23 Sq km in the district, 3,471.14 Sq km was under cultivation and 31,464 sq km was cultivated more than once. The soils in general are very fertile. Two projects benefitting the district are Prakasam Barrage and Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. There also a number of minor irrigation projects.[2]
