Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin (transl. Lost in someone's love) is an Indian Hindi-language television drama series that premiered on 5 October 2020 on Star Plus. It is also digitally available on Disney+ Hotstar. It stars Ayesha Singh, Neil Bhatt and Aishwarya Sharma Bhatt. Produced by Cockrow Entertainment and Shaika Films, it is a remake of Star Jalsha's Bengali series Kusum Dola.[2]

Plot

Sai Joshi, a young and outspoken girl from Gadchiroli aspires to become a doctor and dreams to study MBBS at the Nagpur Medical College. In Nagpur, Virat Chavan becomes an IPS officer and is posted at Gadchiroli.

Sai stays with her father Inspector Kamal Joshi in Gadchiroli The local politician's son and goon, Jagtap, falls into a one-sided love with Sai and harasses her. Jagtap tries to kill Kamal in order to marry Sai. On topping 12th exam in Maharashtra state, Sai requests her father to take retirement and move to Nagpur.

Virat joins his posting in Gadchiroli. Virat's car splashes mud on Sai which makes Sai dislike him. Further, Virat asks Kamal to postpone his VRS on stage. Kamal accepts his senior officer Virat's order which makes Sai angry. Virat and Pakhi become infatuated with each other but the Chavan family select Pakhi as Samrat's bride. Pakhi - to stay with Virat - marries Samrat (who is Virat's cousin) and Virat promises Pakhi to not give her place to any girl. Pakhi confesses her love to Virat which Samrat overhears and leaves for duty, heartbroken.

Kamal Joshi takes the bullet to save Virat from Jagtap's shot and Sai sees it. On his deathbed, Kamal asks Virat to take care of Sai. Sai then attempts suicide. After Kamal's funeral, villagers pressure Virat to marry orphaned Sai. Sai requests Virat to decline marriage proposal and reminds him about Pakhi. Virat proposes a compromise marriage and unwillingly, Sai agrees to it. During marriage, Virat reminds Sai to not expect any husbandly love and support from him as he already made a promise to Pakhi. Sai also makes it clear that she will leave their marriage once she completes her MBBS. Pakhi is upset by Virat and Sai's marriage but Virat assures her by disclosing the marriage's details. The Chavan family refuses to accept Virat and Sai's marriage as Sai is not from an upper class, Shahānnau Kule Maratha, like Pakhi. The Chavan family humiliates Sai by name calling, defaming Kamal's death and his upbringing.

Virat faces false accusations by Vithal Mane and is suspended from his job. Virat blames Sai for it. Further, Virat blames Sai for snatching away his love Pakhi and claims she ruined his life. Sai goes to the police department and saves Virat's job.

Production

Development

The filming of the series began in September 2020.[3] Mainly filmed in Mumbai, some initial sequences of the series were shot at Nashik.[4]

In March 2021, the filming was halted for a few days when Neil Bhatt and a crew member tested positive for COVID-19 virus, leading to a change in the track.[5]

On 13 April 2021, Chief Minister of Maharashtra announced a curfew from 15 April. On 16 and 17 April, the team shifted filming to Goa for a few weeks until the government issued a confirmation to resume shooting in Mumbai.[6]

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Uddhav Thackeray announced that shooting of all shows must halt within all parts of urban and rural Maharashtra. Hence, Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin producers moved to Goa and were permitted by the government to only shoot indoors, inside their bio-bubble.[7] Everything proceeded as planned, but in May 2021 the producers shot a scene at Goa Fort, violating the regulations.[8]

Release

The first promo of the series was released on 12 September 2020 featuring the leads Ayesha Singh and Neil Bhatt. The promo released on 1 October 2020 featured veteran actress Rekha promoting the series.[9] The following promo released before premiere featured Deepika Singh in her character Sandhya Rathi from Diya Aur Baati Hum to promote the series.[10]

The show topped the TRP list by beating Anupamaa in Weeks 18, 19 and 20 of 2021 but again came to second position in Week 21 of 2021 with the former reigning the TRP list since then.[11][12][13][14][15]

On 4 August 2021, Rekha again made an appearance in a teaser to promote the track of Sai and Virat's outdoor trip as well as Samrat's return in the series.[16][17]
