Ajit Singh Nagar is a neighbourhood of Vijayawada in the NTR district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the mandal headquarters of Vijayawada North mandal in Vijayawada revenue division.[1]

Overview

In the sixties of the previous century, many poor people and slum dwellers were alotted land in Ajit Singh Nagar Colony. They occupied the area in a phased manner. Alongside civic amenities and a flyover transformed the area into a middle class colony. Many people from other parts of the city became interested in settling in the area. It lead to the construction of apartments. It has an estimated population of more than 40,000 people. Initially, the population was dependent on borewells for water and they started receiving water from the Krishna in the late nineties. Former Municipal Commissioner Ajit Singh designed a master plan with roads and spaces for schools, parks and other facilities.[2]

History

NTR district was carved out of Krishna district in 2022.[3]
