Yeh Desh (transl. This Country) is a 1984 Indian Hindi-language political film, produced by P. Mallikharjuna Rao under the Bharati International banner and directed by Tatineni Rama Rao.[1] It stars Jeetendra, Kamal Haasan and Zeenat Aman with music composed by R. D. Burman.[2] The film is a remake of the Malayalam film Ee Nadu (1982).[3][4]

Plot[edit]

Chandramohan Azad (Jeetendra) is an employee and a union leader. His zeal and hard work are detested by some of his fellow-workers and his employer, Sinha (Pincho Kapoor). He is framed for the murder of a fellow union worker and sentenced to jail for several years. After his release, he finds out that his brother-in-law, Deshbandhu (Utpal Dutt) is an MLA, and his sister (Seema Deo) is content with the way the things are. Chandramohan's right to assert what is truthful and right is frustrated at every attempt by a corrupt society and law enforcement officers. Will Chandramohan continue to fight inequality or will he himself become part of the system he fights now? Chandramohan fights with Dhuliya ( Amrish puri) as Dhuliya runs a liquor shop and that causes roadside quarrel between a couple that goes up to extent of the husband threaten wife if no money given by wife for his liquor, he will break their wedding chain, this seen by Chandramohan understands the husband under effect of liquor causing the quarrel. Chandramohan argues with Dhuliya of conducting liquor shop without license and ends up in fight. Dhuliya catches Deshbandhu to get license. Deshbandu is in continued effort to become the chief minister by interfering in domestic issues and arguments against the ruling cabinet though he is also member. Dhuliyas one employe gets in love with a neighbour worker's daughter and ends up in getting sexual relationship in one night, this gets caught by Dhuliya who talks and ends up the relationship as marriage. This same time Sinha conducts a party for a huge rally for his party and needs heavy amount of liquor to be given free for all the party rally participants, so orders from Dhuliya to get by anyway this huge amount for the free liquor supply for the rally participants, but Dhuliya warns Sinha he don't have enough stock and whatever old stock is full contaminated but Sinha persuades to get liquor from whatever is the source . Dhuliya agrees. Finally marriage party and rally gets happened in same day, all the people who drank this liquor dies ending up in a large number of deaths. Now Deshbandhu takes this opportunity and pressurise the current chief minister ending up of resignation of the current chief minister and Deshbandhu becomes the new cm . While going out from the occasion of got cm post to guest house, chandramohan objects by obstructing the road till assurance that the person behind the deaths get arrested. This makes Deshbandhu and sinha very angry so decides to kill chandramohan, this heard by sinha wife runs away and inform chandramohan of their plan to kill chandramohan, by this time their gundas start attack chandramohan and finally ends up in killing of chandramohan. Next day stage speech conducted by Deshbandhu and sinha gets stopped by Salim (vinod mehra) and his people by bringing chandramohan dead body, same time police comes and arrest sinha for which evidence of eyewitness declared by sinhas wife who gets down from police jeep. Now ig who was evil side now turned honest arrests Deshbandhu also ending up the film

The film's music was composed by R. D. Burman and lyrics were penned by Anand Bakshi. The soundtrack was also marked the debut of noted singer, Kumar Sanu.[7]
