The Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research (commonly known as WeSchool) is a private business school based in Mumbai, India, with a second campus in Bengaluru. Established in 1977 by the Shikshan Prasarak Mandali (S.P. Mandali), one of the oldest educational trusts in Maharashtra, the institute is affiliated with the University of Mumbai and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).[1][2] The institute offers postgraduate programmes in management, including Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), Master of Management Studies (MMS), and various executive and distance learning programmes.[3]

The Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali (S.P. Mandali) was founded in 1888 and is one of the pioneering educational societies in Maharashtra.[1] The trust operates over 43 educational institutions across Maharashtra and Karnataka, including Ruia College, and has imparted education to more than 45,000 students.[1][4]
The Welingkar Institute was established in 1977 by S.P. Mandali, with its initial campus located in a small building in Sion, Mumbai, occupying approximately 10,000 square feet.[5][6] The institute later expanded to a larger campus in Matunga, Mumbai, with a total area of 1,70,000 square feet.[6] The institute began offering the University of Mumbai Part-Time Master's programs in 1988 and launched its flagship PGDM program in 1993.[5][7] The Bengaluru campus was established in 2008 at Electronic City, Bengaluru.[7]
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe, who joined the institute as a professor in 1995 and was appointed director in 2000, the institute underwent a transformation and adopted the "WeSchool" brand identity.[8][9]

Mumbai campus[edit | edit source]
The Mumbai campus is located on Lakhamsi Napoo Road, Matunga, next to R.A. Podar College, near Matunga Central Railway Station.[10] The campus features state-of-the-art facilities including Wi-Fi connectivity, Innovation and Leadership Labs, smart classrooms, a library with an audio-visual room, and IT labs.[5][11]
Bengaluru campus[edit | edit source]
The Bengaluru campus is situated in Electronics City Phase I, Hosur Road, Bengaluru.[12] Established in 2008, the campus is designed to nurture design thinking and innovation and features smart classrooms, a prototype lab, an amphitheatre, and separate hostels for boys and girls within 2 km of the campus.[13]

Programmes[edit | edit source]
WeSchool offers a range of postgraduate programmes, primarily the two-year full-time AICTE-approved PGDM programme with multiple specialisations.[3] The Master of Management Studies (MMS) programme, offered since 1984, is affiliated with the University of Mumbai.[14]
The institute offers the following PGDM specialisations at its Mumbai and Bengaluru campuses:[3][11]
- PGDM (General) – Started in 1993, with 180 seats at Mumbai and 60 seats at Bengaluru. Offers specialisations in Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, and Operations.[11]
- PGDM E-Business – Started in 2007, with 120 seats. A techno-commercial programme blending management and information technology.[11]
- PGDM Business Design – Started in 2008, with 60 seats. Integrates innovation, creativity, and design thinking into management education.[11]
- PGDM Healthcare – Started in 2011, with 60 seats. Combines business management and healthcare disciplines.[11]
- PGDM Rural Management (Emerging Economies) – Started in 2012, with 60 seats. Provides practical exposure to emerging rural economies.[11]
- PGDM Retail Management – Started in 2012, with 60 seats. Provides a comprehensive view of the retail industry.[11]
- PGDM Research & Business Analytics – Started in 2016, with 120 seats. Covers analytical tools, machine learning, big data, business intelligence, artificial intelligence, and programming languages including R and Python.[11]
- PGDM Media & Entertainment – Started in 2016, with 60 seats. Focuses on content creation, content management, advertising, and digital media marketing.[11]
The institute also offers part-time Master's programmes affiliated with the University of Mumbai, including MMS, MFM, MMM, MIM, MCA, MHRDM, and PGDM (International Business), as well as distance learning programmes.[2][14]
Accreditations and affiliations[edit | edit source]
WeSchool is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is affiliated with the University of Mumbai.[2][15] The institute has received accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for its PGDM and MMS programmes.[15][16] It also holds a 10-year accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), a globally recognised business education accrediting body.[17][18] The PGDM programmes are recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as equivalent to an MBA.[16]
Rankings[edit | edit source]
In the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, WeSchool Mumbai was ranked 75th in the Management category.[19][20] The institute was ranked 16th among private B-schools nationally, 4th in the West Zone, and 1st in Mumbai by Outlook in its 2023 ranking.[11] It was ranked 34th among top B-schools of India by MBAUniverse.com and 43rd by Business Today.[16]
Admissions[edit | edit source]
Admission to the PGDM programmes is based on a multi-stage selection process. Candidates must have a minimum of 50% in their bachelor's degree and must appear for national-level entrance exams such as CAT, XAT, CMAT, ATMA, GMAT, or MAH MBA CET.[2][3] Shortlisted candidates participate in Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GDPI) rounds. The final selection is based on entrance exam scores, academic profile, work experience, and performance in the GDPI rounds.[2]
Fees[edit | edit source]
For the 2025–27 batch, the tuition fee for the PGDM programme is ₹7 lakh per annum, totaling ₹14 lakh for two years. Hostel fees range from ₹1.6 lakh to ₹2.2 lakh per year.[21]
Placements[edit | edit source]
For the 2023–25 PGDM batch, WeSchool Mumbai recorded a highest package of ₹40 lakh per annum and an average package of ₹11.68 lakh per annum. The Bengaluru campus recorded a highest package of ₹18.75 lakh per annum and an average package of ₹11 lakh per annum.[3] The institute achieved 100% placement for the 2023–25 PGDM batch, with 358 recruiters participating in the placement process.[22] Top recruiters include Accenture, J.P. WeSchool hosts several annual events and extracurricular activities. Webiz is a major annual management and marketing fest featuring competitions in brand identification, creative brand integration, marketing improvisation, and campaign design.[3] IMPACT is an annual inter-B-school cricket tournament, one of the institute's oldest sports traditions, held at venues such as Matunga Gymkhana.[3] Karvaan is a cultural festival organised by students of the PGDM Media & Entertainment programme, providing a platform for emerging musicians, dancers, and performers.[3] The institute also organises D-Magics, an event showcasing innovative concepts developed by students.[32]
