Vithya Ramraj (born 20 September 1998) is an Indian athlete from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. She is a three-time National champion. She competes in 100m and 400m hurdles and 400 metres. On 2 October 2023 at the 2022 Asian Games, she equalled the Indian national record of 55.42s in 400m hurdles set by P. T. Usha at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984. She won the 400m hurdles bronze at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China on October 3. She also won a silver medal-winning 4x400m mixed relay team along with Muhammad Ajmal Variyathodi, Rajesh Ramesh and Subha Venkatesan.

Early life

Vithya hails from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Her father is a truck driver and her mother Meena is a home maker. Her identical twin Nithya is also an athlete. Vithya works with Indian Railways. The girls started playing hockey and her mother enrolled them in the Erode Girls Sports School for Class 7.she earned her Degree from Kongu Arts and Science College, Erode. Later they shifted to athletics

College Life

Vidya Ramaraj, a BBA student from the 2016-2019 batch at Kongu Arts and Science College, pursued her education under a sports scholarship provided by the KVIT Trust, Perundurai. Her remarkable achievements are a testament to her unwavering commitment, relentless dedication, and the invaluable support she received from the college's management, correspondents, principal, physical director, and faculty members. Despite hailing from a modest middle-class background, Vidya never allowed excuses to hinder her academic and athletic pursuits.Her pursuit of excellence extended to the university and national levels. In college, Vidya distinguished herself as a national-level athlete. Her dedication bore fruit at the 19th Asian Games in 2023, where she proudly secured a bronze medal.However, Vidya's accomplishments do not end there. She clinched a bronze medal in the 400m hurdles, secured silver in the 4x400 mixed relay, and came tantalizingly close to gold in the 4x400 women's relay.The entire nation eagerly anticipates Vidya's future performances, hoping for more historic moments in Indian athletics. Her name now shines alongside the legendary P.T. Usha, serving as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the Indian sports community.Kongu Arts and Science College deserves commendation for its commitment to nurturing sports talent. Currently, the college offers free food, accommodation, and education to 45 sports quota students, who eagerly await their chance to shine and bring further glory to the institution.

Athletics career

Till 2017 Vithya also ran 100m and 200m sprint events but later on started focusing on 400m hurdles. But she and her coach decided that she will do both 400m and 400m hurdles and she is also continuing with both 100m events. The tournaments she took part in 2023 are:

• 15-17 May 2023: 100m and 100m hurdles - Birsa Munda Foot Ball Stadium, Morabadi, Ranchi (IND);

• 17 June 2023: 4 × 100 m relay - Indian Championships, Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar (IND);

• 13 July 2023: 100m hurdles - Asian Athletics Championships, Supachalasai National Stadium, Bangkok (THA);

• 30 July 2023: 4 × 400 m relay, 4 × 400 m mixed relay - Mahinda Rajapaksha Stadium, Diyagama (SRI)

• 10, 11 September 2023: 400m, 400m hurdles - Indian Grand Prix 5, Chandigarh (IND).
