Nithya Ramraj (born 20 September 1998) is an Indian athlete from Tamil Nadu. She competes in 100m hurdles. She represented India at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.[1][2] She is India's No.2 in the sprint hurdles behind top athlete Jyothi Yarraji in the rankings.[3]

Early life[edit]

Nithya hails from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Her father was a truck driver and her mother, Meena, is a home maker.[4] She is the youngest of the three sisters.[5] Her identical twin Vithya is also an athlete. The girls started playing hockey and her mother joined them in the Erode Girls Sports School for Class 7. Later they shifted to athletics. Nithya is working with the Income Tax Department.[1]

Career[edit]

  • 2023: Ran 100m hurdles at the Asian Games 2022 at Hangzhou, China. Earlier, she clocked 13.55s to finish fourth in the trials.[3]
  • 2023: Representing India she finished fourth in the sprint hurdles at the 25th Asian Athletics Championships 2023 in Bangkok.[6]
  • 2021: In March, she came third in the 100m hurdles in the 24th National Federation Cup Senior Athletic Championshps at NS NIS, Patiala.[7]
  • 2019: In October, she came second in the 100m hurdles in the 59th National Open Athletics Championships at Ranchi in Jharkhand.[7]
  • 2019: In August, she was fourth in the 100m hurdles in the 9th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.[7]
