Thuramukham (lit. 'The Harbour') is a 2021 Indian Malayalam-language historical drama film directed and shot by Rajeev Ravi. The screenplay of the film written by Gopan Chidambaran is based on a play of the same name written by his father K. N. Chidambaran.[1][2][3] The film stars Nivin Pauly in lead role while, Poornima Indrajith, Indrajith Sukumaran, Arjun Ashokan, Nimisha Sajayan, Sudev Nair, Manikandan R. Achari, Darshana Rajendran in the supporting roles. The film is scheduled to premiere at the 2021 International Film Festival Rotterdam.[4]

Plot[edit]

The story is set in the backdrop of workers' struggle against the infamous ‘Chappa’ system of casual labour allocation that was practiced at the Mattancherry harbour in Kochi during the 1940s and 50s. Metal tokens called Chappa were thrown into the waiting crowds of workers who had to fight for the tickets (Chappa). Whoever manages to get one would be given work for the day at the wharves or godowns.

The principal photography of the film was completed in January 2020, but the release was delayed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.The movie is scheduled for the theatrical release on 13 May 2021.[5]
