Joseph George (born 22 October 1975) is an Indian actor and film producer who works in Malayalam films. [1] He began his acting career as a junior artist in the 1995 film Mazhavilkoodaram and continued doing such roles until 2010s when he rose to supporting roles and attained recognition.[2] In 2015, he won the Kerala State Film Award – Special Mention for his supporting roles in Oru Second Class Yathra and Lukka Chuppi. He also co-produced Charlie that year.[3]

In 2018, he produced and played his first leading role in Joseph, a critical and commercial success, which became his breakthrough. It also won him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Character Actor (along with his role in Chola) and the National Film Award – Special Mention. He played the lead in Joshiy-directed Porinju Mariam Jose in 2019, which became a commercial success.

He also owns a production company named Appu Pathu Pappu Production, notable films of which include Charlie, Porinju Mariam Jose, and Chola.[4][5][6] He is currently producing Alli, the Tamil remake of Chola in association with Karthik Subbaraj.[7]

Personal life[edit]

He was born in Mala, Trichur to George Parecattil and Rosy George. He did his schooling from GHS, Kuzhur. He studied at the Christ College, Irinjalakuda before commencing his career in the film industry as an assistant director (1997). He married Abba in 2008 and has three children Ian, Sarah and Ivan.[8]
