Swarupu, also known as Karthik Shankar is an Indian film actor, Director, Writer and Producer who works in the Tamil film industry. Swarupu started his acting career in the film Man of the Match in 1996 and has starred in many films since. His uncle is the late director AG Baby (director). Swarupu is best known for his role as Saroja's murai maman in the 2016 romantic thriller Thodari and Pathmavyuhathile Abhimanyu (Mohammad Niyas) in the 2019 crime thriller. Among the popular movies he acted are Thodari (2016), Mahabaratham Serial Sun TV (2013), Ennul Aayiram (2017), Express Khilladi, Rail, School Diary Serial Doordharshan (1997), Pathmavyuhathile Abhimanyu (2019) and Saravanan Meenatchi (2012), etc. Before being a part of the South Indian film industry, Swarupu graduated from The Irish film Institute in 2006 with a degree in acting. He then contineued to act in Irish films and series such as The Treasure Island (2011), Raw (2011), The Savage Eye ( 2011), and more. He also received a Special Appreciation Award at the Dublin International Film and Music Festival.
