The 2023 Superstar Spectacle is the upcoming second Superstar Spectacle professional wrestling event produced by the American company WWE. It will feature wrestlers from the promotion's Raw brand division. The event will take place on September 8, 2023, at the G. M. C. Balayogi Indoor Stadium in the Hyderabad suburb of Gachibowli, India, and will be the first Superstar Spectacle since January 2021. This will also be WWE's first live event to be held in India since December 2017 and the first held in the city of Hyderabad. It has not been confirmed if this will be a television special like the previous event or if it will be available on WWE's livestreaming platforms.
Production[edit]
Background[edit]
In October 2020, the American professional wrestling promotion WWE began a five-year deal with Sony Pictures Networks India to produce content for WWE's Indian market. In January 2021, the first event under this deal was held as Superstar Spectacle, which aired as a television special on India's Republic Day (January 26). Outside of India, the event was streamed on the WWE Network. In addition to wrestlers from the Raw, SmackDown, and NXT brand divisions, the event featured the promotion's developing Indian wrestlers.[1][2][3] Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that year, the event was held within WWE's bio-secure bubble, the WWE ThunderDome, which at the time was hosted at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.[4]
On August 1, 2023, WWE announced that a second Superstar Spectacle would be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the G. M. C. Balayogi Indoor Stadium in the Hyderabad suburb of Gachibowli, India. This will be WWE's first live event to be held in India since 2017 and the first held in Hyderabad. Various wrestlers from the Raw brand were announced to be featured at the event due to SmackDown being held that same night in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. Tickets will go on sale on August 4, 2023.[5] WWE had planned to again hold the event in January, but this was delayed due to a network merger happening with WWE's broadcast partner in India.[6] It has not been confirmed if the 2023 event will again be held as a television special in India or if it will be available on WWE's streaming platforms.[5]
