The Ministry of Interior is headed by the Interior Minister, supported by the Minister of State for Interior and the Interior Secretary. The Interior Secretary holds the rank of a Grade 22 officer, while the Interior Minister is a prominent member of the federal cabinet. The minister must be a member of Parliament. During the martial regimes of Generals Ayub Khan and Yahya Khan, from 1962 to 1971, the title of the Interior Minister was changed to Home Affairs Minister.
