Soumya Vilekar is an Indian author, poet, powder metallurgy technologist, and film producer. She is best known as the co-founder and former CFO/COO of Planet Marathi OTT, India’s first Marathi-language streaming platform.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Vilekar began writing poetry in her teens and later pursued a career in powder metallurgy. She earned a joint Indian patent for developing a Partially alloyed bronze manufacturing process.[1]

Powder metallurgy[edit | edit source]

Vilekar founded Involute Metal Powder Technologies, which offered consultancy and technology transfer in the field of powder metallurgy. She was awarded a joint Indian Patent for development and process for manufacturing Partially alloyed bronze powders for powder metallurgical applications.[2]

Literature and poetry[edit | edit source]

Vilekar has published more than 3,000 poems focusing on spirituality, nature, and human emotions in multi lingual disciplinaries, international anthologies and magazines. Her works include:

  • Winds of Philia
  • Suroor of the Soul (co-authored with Shaheen S. Dhanji)

Featured for consecutive 4 years in the POETIC PRISM, a multilingual poetic anthology which got featured in Limca book of records (Amaravati Poetic Prism refers to an international multilingual poetry festival and anthology organized by the Cultural Centre of Vijayawada & Amaravati (CCVA). The event showcases poetry in various languages from around the world. The 2019 edition, for example, featured 1303 poems in 125 languages by over 761 poets from 86 countries. The festival is known for its large-scale multilingual poetry anthologies and has been recognized by the Limca Book of Records.)

Planet Marathi[edit | edit source]

In 2017, Vilekar co founded Planet marathi, a Marathi based film Production Company. She had pivotal role in the company to produce films such as AB Aani CD, Goshta Eka Paithanichi, and Chandramukhi during 2019-2020. During the covid-19 pandemic, the first Marathi OTT platform was launched which went ahead to gain more than 1 million users in a period of 12 months.

Planet Marathi OTT officially launched during the COVID-19 pandemic.[3]

She stepped down from the board of directors on 15 January 2024 along with her son Anitya Vilekar.[4]

Legal action[edit | edit source]

In February 2025, Vilekar filed a legal complaint under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act against Planet Marathi and its founder Akshay Bardapurkar, citing dishonored cheques worth ₹7 crore. Additional claims by investors and vendors totaled over ₹30 crore.[5]
