Political career[edit]

Work related to Railway

Dr. Shinde changed the old scenario of railway stations of Kalyan Constituency, worked hard; over 2000 crore rupees got sanctioned for railway related work in Kalyan Constituency.

Transformation of Railway Stations.

Dr. Shinde is from today's young generation who believes in practical results. After getting elected he started to follow up with the Railway Department for construction and renovation of foot overbridge[6] and new ticket offices, new sky walk,[7] new washrooms of railway stations that come under the Kalyan Constituency. With the initiative of Dr. Shinde and the Railway Department, many changes are done on Ambernath, Kalyan, Kalwa, Diva, Thakurli, Kopar, etc. railway stations. With the efforts of Dr. Shinde ATVM machines[8] were placed at stations to get tickets in less time for commuters at the station. With the initiative of Dr. Shinde a new escalator and lift was placed on the stations from Kalwa[9] to Ambernath.  He followed up rigorously with the Railway Department about providing clean drinking water at minimum cost. Later, the Railway Department placed water dispensers on stations[10] where people can pay just 5rs per liter.

Dr. Shinde played a crucial role in expediting the construction of Thakurli, Diva,[11] Kharegav,[12] Kopari flyover bridges to avoid railway crossing accidents. Construction of Diva flyover bridge will start soon, and other constructions are about to complete soon. He had built a concrete road over Sahyadri rivulet for the travellers to make the commute easy to reach from Kharegaon to Kalwa station in less time.

Additional 5th and 6th Line of Railway

Lakhs of people commute by railway to Mumbai and other suburban areas. The congested trains cause many unfortunate mishaps. To increase the railway services Dr. Shinde proposed the plan of an additional 5th and 6th line at Thane and Diva railway station.[13] The plan which was pending for many years got approved by the Railway Department. Work on the fifth and sixth railway line corridors between Thane and Diva railway stations is expected to be completed this year. Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has completed the work of laying 17 of the 20-km-long tracks for the additional railway lines between Thane and Diva railway stations. After the completion of the railway lines along with the segregation of outstation trains at Kalyan yard, 100 new local train services are likely to be introduced between CSMT and Kalyan station.

AC Railway service between CSMT to Kalyan

Like Western Railway, Central Railway should get AC locals, this demand was raised and followed up by Dr. Shinde with the Ministry of Railways in the Lok Sabha session. The railway administration had finally accepted the demand and started 10 AC local services on Central Railway. AC Railway service between Chhatrapati_Shivaji_Maharaj_Terminus to Kalyan railway station[14] was started from December 2020 for lakhs of passengers traveling on Central Railway.

Chikhloli Station

For commuters who live between the area of Ambernath & Badlapur faced hectic travel due to the long distance between both these stations. Chikhloli is the area between both the stations which went through development in these last 5years. To address the issue of commuters from Chikhloli; Dr. Shinde proposed the idea of a new station. The Railway Ministry approved the project and new station 'Chikhloli',[15] which is expected to be completed in 2023. It will initially operate as a halt station for long-distance trains, though it may later be converted to a suburban station. The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has also finalised a concept for two additional 14-km lines between Kalyan and Badlapur, which includes the new station, segregated under the Mumbai Urban Transport, Dr. Shinde followed up for the addition of two lines for the Kalyan Badlapur to increase additional train services.

Kalyan Yard Remodelling

By remodeling the yard at Kalyan station,[16] Dr. Shinde worked on a proposal to make local services more efficient on the Kalyan-Mumbai route by stopping hundreds of long-distance trains from North and South India. An ambitious project has been surveyed for two to four tracks of Kalyan, Kasara road and three tracks of Kalyan-Karjat road and other technical work. Construction of pedestrian bridges have been completed. Under this project major developmental changes at Kalyan Station will be done at a cost of Rs. 961 crore. It will include construction of 4 suburban tracks and six outstation train tracks. The remodelling of kalyan yard[17] is a part of Mumbai Urban Transport Project. Apart from tracks construction the project includes construction of a road overbridge near patripool, a rail flyover on the south-east side of the railway station.

Construction of Bridges

During the lockdown, the railways demolished the Kopar flyover at Dombivali, repaired the Valdhuni flyover. Completed the work of pedestrian bridges at Dombivali, Thakurli, Titwala, repaired pedestrian bridges at Badlapur, Khadavali, Vasind, Asangaon, Ulhasnagar, Bhiwandi Road, Thane, Kalwa etc. Railways intends to start Kalyan-Vashi, Kalyan-Panvel local. For this, Rs 428 crore was sanctioned for Kalwa-Airoli elevated link track.

Patripool Rail Over Bridge (ROB)

The 104-year-old Patripool bridge was demolished in an emergency after it was declared unsafe by IIT Bombay. Shutting down the bridge caused congestion on both the sides of cities. To complete the work of Patripool in a shorter period was a challenging task. Dr. Shinde and the officials from MSRDC worked extremely hard on this project. To make sure the public should not face difficulty in travel, the team decided to make the structure of this bridge at Hyderabad.

Patripool has the longest 76m web link girder[18] in the entire Mumbai Metropolitan region, as per the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) officials. Apart from the longest web link girder, the bridge also has another girder of 33m. Usually, it takes eight months to build a girder but, in this case, Dr. Shinde and the team behind executing the plan considered the need for the bridge; the girders were built in two-three months to avoid congestion on the road. To place these girders on the location was one of toughest parts for the team. This bridge was one of the technically advanced bridges of Maharashtra. But an unexceptional team succeeded in placing these girders on the location. The work of the new Patripool Rail Over Bridge[19](ROB), completed on 25 January.

Metro Project in Kalyan

Dr. Shrikant Shinde suggested The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to extend the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan metro[20] corridor to far-eastern suburbs like Dombivli, Badlapur and Ambernath, and link it with the Navi Mumbai lines. To ease commuting in Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the project of Metro – 5 corridor connects Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan. Metro-5 (Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan) is expected to be completed by December 2024. The 24.90-km elevated corridor will provide much-needed connectivity in areas heavily dependent on the suburban railway.
