Shri Shashwatacharya Ji Maharaj (born 5 August 2007) is an Indian Hindu spiritual speaker (Katha Vachak) and the Peethadhishwar of the Shri Dham Goda Vihar Mandir in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh.[1][2] He got viral on social media in late October 2026, where he was affectionately dubbed the "Gen Z Baba" by younger audiences.[3] He's also called Mogeshwar Baba and Facecardeshwar baba.[4]

Early life[edit | edit source]

Shashwat Acharya was born on 5 August 2007 in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, India.[2] He is the son of Swami Vrindavan Acharya Ji Maharaj.[3] Raised within the premises of the Shri Dham Goda Vihar Mandir, Acharya's childhood was closely integrated with temple life and the traditions of Braj Bhakti.[5] From an early age, he was exposed to religious teachings and devotional practices, which reportedly fostered his interest in reciting the Srimad Bhagavatam.[3]

Spiritual career[edit | edit source]

Acharya is a practitioner of Hindu spiritual storytelling, specifically known for delivering Bhagwat Katha (religious discourses focused on the Bhagavata Purana and the life of the deity Krishna).[6]

He currently serves as the Peethadhishwar (the presiding authority or head) of the Shri Dham Goda Vihar Mandir in Vrindavan.[2] In this role, he is responsible for guiding the temple's religious practices, traditions, and spiritual gatherings.[2]

Social media popularity[edit | edit source]

In late October 2026, clips of Acharya narrating the Bhagwat Katha unexpectedly went viral on platforms such as Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).[3] Despite his traditional content and background, his youthful appearance, curly hair, and calm demeanor attracted significant attention from a younger demographic.[6]

Internet users coined various nicknames for him, most notably "Gen Z Baba" and "Pookie Baba," playfully contrasting his traditional spiritual role with contemporary internet slang.[1][2] His appearance also drew comparisons to fictional pop culture figures, such as the character Mike Wheeler from the Netflix series Stranger Things.[7][6] The sudden viral fame expanded his audience far beyond the traditional attendees of religious gatherings in Vrindavan, though his online presence remains strictly focused on devotional practices and temple activities.[3]
