Sharjah Indian School is a senior secondary school owned and managed by Indian Association Sharjah located in the United Arab Emirates. It currently has a strength of around 11000 students and 600 teachers.[1]

History[edit]

Sharjah Indian School is a Senior Secondary School, Owned and Managed by Indian Association Sharjah. Established in 1979 with 280 pupils and 13 teachers, the school stands as a landmark in the annals of the Indo- UAE friendship. Today after 42 years, the school has a strength of 13,937 students and 588 teachers (Including Both Branches).[2] The school is approved and licensed by the private Education Department of the Ministry of Education, UAE and is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, India. The school which stands on a plot of land donated by Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, member of the supreme council and ruler of Sharjah, has a purpose built and magnificent infrastructure.

Academics[edit]

The school is approved and licensed by the private Education Department of the Ministry of Education, UAE and is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, India. The curriculum and programme of work is in accordance with the requirements of the Central Board of Secondary Education New Delhi, India.

The medium of Instruction in the school is English, with Hindi as a compulsory second language. Arabic is taught as per the rules laid down by the UAE Ministry of Education.

Management[edit]

The school is owned and managed by the Indian Association Sharjah. The administration of the school is carried out by the Managing Committee elected by the members of the Indian Association Sharjah. The Management of the school has been very sincere and supportive in the growth of the school. They have taken up the progress and development of the school as their prime responsibility and duty and are highly involved in the day to day activities of the school. The Managing Committee is elected by the members of the Indian Association Sharjah. The tenure of the committee is one year. The managing Committee consists of the President, Vice President, General Secretary, Joint General Secretary, Treasurer, Joint Treasurer, Auditor and Committee Members. The school community is grateful to the management for their unfailing and dedicated support and guidance.

Facilities[edit]

The school houses Computer, Biology, Physics, Engineering, Chemistry and Psychology Labs. In 2014, the school decided to build a new complex for accommodating more students and the stone foundation was laid. In 2016, it was inaugurated on December by Pinarayi Vijayan. The whole of Boys wing moved to the new school on 19 February 2018. Now the school functions as two different schools. One as a Boys Branch school in Juwaiza, Sharjah and the other as a Girls Branch school in Ghubaiba, Sharjah. The Girls Branch consists of kindergarten students (boys and girls) and First to Twelfth Grade girl students. The Boys Branch school consists of only First to Twelfth Grade boy students.
