Samadon Ayangba
"Samadon Ayangba" (Meitei: ꯁꯃꯗꯣꯟ ꯑꯌꯥꯡꯕ) is a mythical winged divine horse, and one of the most recognized creatures in Meitei Manipuri mythology.[1][2] It is created by Sanamahi and sent from the moon to charge attack on Pakhangba. Later, it became the stead of Marjing,[3][4] the god who invented the polo.[5] It is also termed as "Shamadon Ayangba" (Meitei: ꯁꯃꯗꯣꯟ ꯑꯌꯥꯡꯕ) or "Samaton Ayangpa" (Old Manipuri: ꯁꯃꯇꯣꯟ ꯑꯌꯥꯡꯄ) due to free variation of words in Meitei language.
Samadon Ayangba is believed to be the ancestor of the present day Manipuri Horse.
In popular culture[edit]
- Hada Samadon Ayangba, a folk song, was sung by Mangka Mayanglambam,[6][7] a legendary folk singer from Manipur, in 2014 International Polo Tournament,[8] and later at the Sangai festival in the same year.[9]
