BattleEdit

After regrouping, Tatya Tope reached Bundi on July 18, 1858, but the Maharao denied him entry and refused supplies. In retaliation, Tatya plundered the nearby village of Chynee and moved toward Udaipur via the Kaene Pass.[1][2][7]

AftermathEdit

To pursue him, Major General Roberts sent a mobile column under Lt. Col. Holmes, who crossed the Bundi hills and reached Jahazpur on August 4, though Tatya had already moved on to Bhilwara. Roberts, advancing from the Nimach Nasirabad road, engaged Tatya in a skirmish near Bhilwara on August 8, forcing him towards the Banas River. Holmes joined Roberts soon after, and together they continued the pursuit, reaching Kankroli on August 13. There, they learned Tatya had taken up a defensive position near Nathdwara on a rocky ridge by the Banas River.[1][2]
