Battle of Tonk[3] also known as Siege of Tonk[4] was fought after second battle of Cawnpore , Tatya Tope retreated at Alipur they entered Tonk as refugees and the attacked the fortress of Tonk and made Raja sue for peace.[1][5][6][2]
Battle[edit]
Following his setback at Jore Alipur, Tatya Tope, accompanied by Rao Saheb and the Nawab of Banda, retreated toward Bharatpur. However, a British detachment from Agra under Brigadier Showers advanced to secure Bharatpur, prompting Tatya to redirect his march toward Jaipur. His plans were thwarted again when Major General Roberts reached Jaipur ahead of him with a sizeable British force. Tatya then turned southward and launched an attack on Tonk. There, he met with success: the Nawab of Tonk, gripped by fear, took refuge inside his fort, abandoning his forces outside. These troops, along with three brass cannons, defected en masse and joined Tatya. As a result, on 9 July 1858, Tatya Tope assumed full control over Tonk.[1][2]
