Rudraji Salvi (born either in February 1670 or earlier) was a Maratha commander of the Salvi clan and a childhood companion of Chhatrapati Rajaram I. He first came into prominence during Chhatrapati Shivaji’s southern campaigns, when he was appointed Karkhanis (administrative officer) of the Gingee Fort. Rudraji continued to serve in this capacity and later played a key role during the Siege of Jinji. In recognition of his support, Rajaram I granted him the jagir of Ratnagiri, securing his place among the notable Maratha chiefs of the late 17th century.
Early Life[edit]
Rudraji was a Maratha commander of the Salvi clan born either in February 1670 or way earlier than it. He was childhood friend of Chhatrapati Rajaram I[1], he was made the Karkhanis of Gingee Fort by Chhatrapati Shivaji during his Southern campgains.[2]
Career[edit]
Rudraji Salvi worked as Karkhannis of the Gingee Fort under Shivaji before he was granted the jagir of Ratnagiri by Shivaji’s son Rajaram I in recognition of his support during the Siege of Jinji.[3][4][5]
Rajaram Chhatrapati to Rudraji bin Sonaji Salvi in recognition of his long and loyal service. As reward, is given an inam comprising land, orchards, fields, and houses in Harcheli, Pargana Rajapur, with rights secured for his heirs in perpetuity. The grant is declared permanent, hereditary, and free from interference.
