Parmeshwar Adi Godrej (16 July 1945 – 10 October 2016) was an Indian philanthropist and socialite, and the wife of Adi Burjorji Godrej, chairman of the Godrej Group.[1]

Life[edit]

Parmeshwar was born in a Sikh family on 16 July 1945, the daughter of an army officer.[2] Parmeshwar was educated at Yadavindra Public School, Patiala.[3] She was 17 when she met Adi Godrej, then 21. Before her marriage to Adi Godrej, she was an hostesses for Air India.[1] They married in 1965, and had three children: daughters Tanya Dubash and Nisa Godrej and son Pirojsha Adi Godrej.[4]

Godrej was frequently described as one of India's premier socialites and power brokers.[5][6][7][8] She was known for her work combating AIDS in India through the Heroes Project, an initiative she launched in 2004 with Hollywood actor Richard Gere and with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative.[9][10][11]

Godrej designed costumes and a look for actor Hema Malini in her film Dharmatma (1975) at the request of her good friend Feroz Khan who was Actor, Director and Producer of the same film.[citation needed]

Death[edit]

Parmeshwar Godrej died on 10 October 2016 at Breach Candy Hospital.[12] Aged 71, she had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital and was undergoing treatment for degenerative lung disease.[13]
